When Woolf describes the moth and his struggle she mostly used pronouns like he and him. When using these pronouns it allows the reader to think of the moth as a human being struggling and it allows the reader to understand and share the moth’s struggle at that point. It also makes make the reader forget that Woolf is talking about a moth and not a human being. It is almost as if she herself thinks of the moth as a human being. In the final paragraph of her narrative story Woolf describes, “The moth having righted himself now lay most decently and uncomplainingly composed. O yes, he seemed to say, death is stronger than I am.” (58). In this quote, Woolf uses the pronouns himself and he to describe the moth after his struggle. She describes how the moth is composed, a human quality, after his fight with death and that allows the reader to understand what the moth went through and how the reader can be proud of the moth for having a small victory before his death.
