Death Penalty Research Paper The death penalty is a sentence of punishment of execution, administered to someone convicted of a capital crime. Examples of capital crimes are treason, killing someone else, or if someone dies throughout a crime attempt from the criminal. With technology advancing throughout the years, the death penalty has changed from hanging people to the electric chair and the lethal injection in the United States. The history of the death penalty in California has a peculiar process, with a way to keep from killing the innocent. Like any other government or lifestyle we have now, they all have an important history behind it. The death penalty is a worldwide punishment and has been of existence for a long time. In California, the death penalties legal executions were authorized under the Criminal Practices Act of 1851 in the year 1851. Before 1891, the state prison killed the criminal without the world knowing but until that year, the executions were conducted by the sheriff. People were still killed by hanging only until the year 1938 which is the year the gas chamber was installed at the state prison of San Quentin. That same year, in December 2, there were the first six executions by lethal gas. Since they now had the gas chamber and did not need to hang people no more. In May 1, 1942, was the final execution by hanging with results of 215 inmates that were executed by hanging. Since technology advanced so fast, in July 30, 2010, the Office of Administrative Law approved and certified for adoption the regulations for lethal injection. The permanent effective date of the regulations was in August 29, 2010. The death penalty has existed in California for a long time now and will continue to be. <ca.gov capital punishment> In the death penalty, there are several punishments and each one has its own procedure. For example, in
