Death penalty argument

The Death Penalty is a serious event that is looked down at by most of the United States. This country has been using the death penalty for several decades, many states in the U.S. have stopped using the death sentence but some states still have their own reasoning for keeping it. One thing that most people don't understand is that the death sentence costs money. The money that is used for the penalty could be used for many other things throughout the states. Those funds could be beneficial to the people and community in that area. Also this is a very cruel and unusual punishment for a supposedly civilized nation. Lastly, there are no strong indications that the death penalty deters people from committing violent crime such as murder. Bottom line...the Death Penalty should be abolished in the United States for many reason.

The death penalty is a very unnecessary act that should not be paid for by the states or anyone for that matter. As a citizen of the U.S. i would not want my tax money goin to such an cruel and violent punishment. The money used to support this cruel punishment could be used in a better way to benefit the country and its people. These funds could be supporting the construction of roads, the rebuilding of old schools, shelters for homeless people etc....

The United States is supposedly a ¨civilized¨ nation yet, the Death Penalty is cruel and violent and does not portray a civilized nation. This penalty is very unusual and many people don't not like this penalty because of their religious beliefs. Just think...lots of people are religious in the United States, and if you're a christian this penalty goes against the ¨thou shalt not kill¨ commandment of the holy bible. Our nation needs a punishment that is sufficient for the crime but not cruel and violent.
If people are trying to teach their children that killing is not okay, then what is the death penalty teaching them? WHen the nations children look at the news and see these punishments put to action it does not only tell them that its ok but also that the Government. or State can take someone elses life. The penalty is contradicting the law because if the law says no killing then why does the state kill criminals.

Lastly, the death penalty does not deter criminals from committing murder or other crimes. Most people sit in prison years after years on death row trying to get their sentence overturned. In past murders, the wrong person was convicted and sentenced to death by law. If the wrong people are being put to death and they didn't even commit then the penalty should really be abolished.
