What is child labour? According to UNICEF, Child labour is any work undertaken by a child that is harmful to them in some way. According to International Labour Organization, 218 million children are involved in child labour, that’s 1 out of 6 children worldwide!! Out of these, almost 126 million work under hazardous conditions.
Why am I against child labour???? Let me state a few points,
First point, Child labour can be harmful to the health of the children. Children face extremely difficult conditions at some of their workplaces, like long working hours, lack of proper food, drinking water and toilets, and chemical poisoning,. This can lead to stunted growth, life-threatening diseases in the later stages of their lives and sometimes even death.
My second point is the safety of these children is compromised. As these children are less expensive to hire and not likely to protest for the fear of being fired, businesses don’t have to worry about following labour regulations. This leads to exploitation and disregard for the wellbeing of the children, leading to grave injuries and fatalities. Also, some children are pushed into illegal activities, which can lead to dire consequences
My third and final point is that child labourers are unable to have a normal childhood and are deprived of wholesome development. As such children are working throughout the day, they are unable to attend schools and get the education which would help them to get good jobs in the future. Thus repeating the vicious cycle of poverty and deprivation
To conclude I feel that child labour is a vicious practice which leads to the loss of innocence and happiness, something which no child should have to go through and thus it should be banned.
