"Gone are the days of candies and Barbie dolls; of playful acts and childish ways. Through those years she learned how to stand and face her fears strongly. Our lovely lady becomes more beautiful, inside out.

The poems “Barbie Doll” and The Leap depict two very different female characters. They both seem to be going through difficult life changing events. The early childhood of the girl within “Barbie Doll” is depicted as being idealistic, because she is said to be engaging in normal childhood activities, and she is depicted as being attractive. Jane MacNaughton within The Leap poem is somewhat similar to “Barbie Doll” because she is depicted as a seemingly normal person at first; however, Jane MacNaughton is depicted in the seventh grade, whereas “Barbie Doll” is depicted at a juvenile stage of life.…

This laboratory is based on a series of famous experiments that were conducted in the 1960’s along the rocky shore of Washington state, in the northwestern United States…The nine species in this laboratory’s simulated rocky intertidal area include three different algae (including one you may have eaten in a Japanese restaurant); three stationary (or “sessile”) filter-feeders; and three mobile consumers (Keystone Predator Student Workbook). In this simulation there are nine different species. The Nori Seaweed, Black Pine, Coral Weed, Mussels, Acorn Barnacles, Gooseneck Barnacles, Whelk, Chiton, and Starfish. The Nori seaweed, Black Pine, and Coral Weed are all algae, which means they live in damp environments and are plant like and have chlorophyll. Having chlorophyll they make their own food through photosynthesis, the fact they can make their own food makes them autotrophs or producers, and are the lowest on the trophic level. The Acorn barnacles, mussels, and gooseneck barnacles are the filter feeders of this environment they do not move. They are the herbivores of this environment and the primary consumers on the trophic level. The whelk, chiton, and starfish are the only mobile species in this environment. Also they are the only carnivores in the environment and are secondary consumers on the trophic level.…

    Barbie-Q

The first paragraph The allure of Cisneros’ story-telling lies in her ability to constantly introduce readers into conflicting states of emotion. Clearly, while the subject’s optimism is consistent throughout the first paragraph, critical readers can detect subtle shifts in feelings which range from sheer exhilaration (as she describes her Barbie’s item with great fondness: ‘evening elegance in black glitter strapless gown’, ‘puffy skirt at the bottom like a mermaid tail’, etc.) to slight disappointment (‘from so much dressing and undressing, the black glitter wears off where her titties stick out’), and eventual solace (shown by her contentment with the self-made clothes). The light tone in “Barbie-Q” is of premium archetype, as the young girl’s voice radiates enthusiasm and urgency. The pace in the first paragraph constantly picks up while the readers’ emotion is dragged down. The initial tension heightens as readers see the protagonist’s wish-list gets longer and longer, until she resorts to her own means in order to curb the fervor.…

In conclusion, it is clear that the poems sole purpose is for girls to realize that they do not have to live up to the “ideal” Barbie doll image that society expects them to be. It was a typical spring day; flowers stand tall, soaking in the sun’s warm rays as they swing in the gentle yet crisp breeze. A song composed of chirping birds slightly overpower the sound of traffic as it is still early in the morning. Macy Jones awoke after a well rested night. Her facial expressions indicate happiness however, a way of reality hit, quickly transforming the slight smile into a deep frown. Macy Jones is not pretty, nor does she feel loved. She often wished her dull brown hair be traded for that of Abigail’s, the girl who modeled perfection. The one who captivated the attention of everyone in the room. The most popular amongst every high school in town. A sudden crash broke her train of thoughts. The long, full length mirror…

The form of the poem was written in free verse style. It consists of four stanzas and each stanza tells a different part of the girl’s life. The girl goes from life being simple, playing with toys and having friends to growing up, worrying about looks, what others think, and being judged. These pressures on a young girl growing into a woman can be extreme and change their whole life. The poem begins with the description of a normal child no different from any other child, “The girl was born as usual” (1). There is a transition in the first stanza lines five and six, where the girl goes from young and happy playing with Barbie’s to an adolescent girl being judged by society. The second stanza explains how no matter how perfect the girl is society makes her feel flawed. The third stanza shows how the girl is willing to…

Commercial cooking oil is an enormous need of people nowadays. These days, cooking oil is becoming expensive. Commoners, or people with insufficient finance, can no longer afford this necessity. Instead, they opt for oil with lesser quality simply because it’s cheaper. It’s very ghastly to do this because for one; your health could be affected, two; you could harbour diseases, and three; on the worst case scenario, it could lead to your death. To think that they would go to extreme lengths, such as that, just to provide oil. Going back to the topic prior to this, we think that although it may be costly, most cooking oils are of unsatisfactory standards especially in our nutrition.…
