For example, after Santiago tells the refugees that he was searching for treasure, the leader tells Santiago that he once had a dream where if he dug at the roots of a sycamore, he would find treasure. The refugees left Santiago as he got up and laughed because he knew where his treasure was: "The boy stood up shakily and looked once more at the Pyramids. They seemed to laugh at him, and he laughed back, his heart bursting with joy. Because now he knew where his treasure was."(168). This shows that Santiago’s heart knows where his true treasure is because he followed his heart. This also shows that Santiago his heart is joyful because he followed his Personal Legend to the end. Finally, this is important because if Santiago didn’t follow his heart throughout the journey, he would not have ever made it this far. To conclude, Santiago’s heart was essential in following his Personal Legend and realizing his dream.
