Decision-Making Process Paper
In the process of buying my first home there were many factors to decide. This was going to be a life changing experience for me and my family. Trying to decide on how much could I afford? What side of town would be best for me? How many bedrooms should I get according to my current household size as well as my future for having children? What lender should I use? There were so many critical decisions to make for one major purchase. So I had to evaluate and process the situation in order to make a concrete decision.
A few of my decision making process was well in line with Bateman, T. S. (2011). Management: Leading & Collaborating in a Competitive World. Step 1 was identifying the problem. My problem was, I was paying rent when I could be receiving a tax rebate and I had no yard for my dog as well as 2 small bedrooms and one bathroom. Purchasing a house would solve this problem. The second and third steps of Management: Leading & Collaborating in a Competitive World, generating alternative solutions and evaluating alternatives did not meet my needs for this purchase.
The forth step is making the choice. I decided that I needed to pursue a 4 bedroom house as a starter home with at least 2 bathrooms. This would be ample room to grow and manageable for me. I also found a property that was within 10 minutes from my job so that I could eliminate as much traffic as possible. I then, step five, implemented the decision and purchased with the lender that I found gave me an excellent interest rate.
Finally after looking back and, step six, evaluating the decision. I made an excellent decision. My house served very well for my family that grew two children and welcoming for family and visitors. As I look back my only regrets is that I sold the home after living in it for six years. I made a hasty decision years later in my second home purchase and failed to go through the entire decision making process that I did with my first purchase

Major decisions need a much more methodical approach to ensure that a problem or issue is addressed critically to achieve the best results while minimizing risk. To ensure that all aspects of the decision making process are addressed, the six stages of decision should be used which are identifying and diagnosing the problem, generating alternative solutions, evaluating alternatives, making the choice, implementing the decision, and evaluating the decision (Bateman, 2011). When all of these steps are applied correctly, the chances of obtaining favorable results are greatly increased.…
