Changing the five day school week has been argued for and against due the controversy as to whether or not it would actually be beneficial to students and teachers. When approaching the idea, many people would like to believe that five day school weeks are the most efficient and productive way to educate our youth. What is often overlooked, however, is that it is causing students to dread school more than they already do, and lessen their willingness to be in or attentive at school. Not only this, but many teachers easily get behind on either grading or lesson planning, while the school could actually save money when switching to this schedule. By refreshing the way the school schedule has previously been, we can address the issue of exhausted students who don 't truly learn anything, teachers who are overwhelmed with work and the economic questions within America 's schools. Providing both students and teachers with a more equal week of break and school time by having Wednesdays off will make students more willing to attend school, give the teachers time to furnish their lesson plans and give the school a break in costs.…
The traditional school schedule is attending one hundred eighty days constant, except for a few days off for holidays, with a summer break close to three months. This schedule is based upon farming seasons, because in the 1800’s farming made up close to sixty percent of the nation’s workforce. During the summer months, increased temperatures caused a greater risk for disease, thus attendance was less than half. As farming slowly started to dwindle down, more people started moving to more urban areas in search of work. Now in the twenty-first century, we still maintain this schedule even though farming technology is more…
Schools looking to save energy and money investigate the four-day school week as a possible solution because although it probably would not use up less energy, it would certainly help in saving some money. One issue with saving energy is that on the fifth day, most schools would still remain open for sporting events, community gatherings, tutoring or other extracurricular activities (Work). The schools would save money on the wages of the cafeteria workers and bus drivers who were not needed on Fridays (Work). However, those people would be angry because that is how they make their living and take care of their families. Cutting salaries could negatively affect the standard of living for the area, making it less appealing to new families.…
People need time at home. Ther kids also want to spend time at home. They want to be able to go home and relax. They do not want to go home and just sleep to get ready for another big day. Students will go crazy if they do not have time for themselves after school. Kids would not want to do their homework because they would be tired. That they will just want to nap. Teachers need time off too. Teachers need summer break too because they need time to get there things ready. Without summer break teachers would not have things organized and ready to go for the kids. It would just be a complete…
Many people don't realize that five days of school is too much for students. Some school districts have changed to a four day school week due to the benefits. However, some people don't agree at all. I believe that school districts made the right decision by changing to a four day school weeks. The National Education Association should consider making this change too because it saves schools money, improves test scores, and increases student attendance.…
Have you ever thought of having a 4 day weekday rather than a 5 day weekday, instead of that short 2 day of relaxation you gain another day to rest off that stress filled body to the luxurious sofa sitting at your house? Well some work places incorporated a 4 day weekend instead of the typical 5 day weekend and I feel as if we, the teachers and students, equally deserve a 3 day weekend, but there’s a catch. The regular school day would be increased by 2 hours but we should want to decrease the amount of stress school gives us for these reasons, the lack of sleep kids already have, less cost of the utilities used in school, lessened suicide rate.…
As modern society advances at astonishing rates, it is a common occurrence that many mandated policies are rarely reviewed, and often become outdated. One of the best instances of this could be depicted by the modern school year. The school year was optimized for a different time, and as such, needs to be changed. The change to an all year school would allow for improved learning, greater knowledge, and an increased number of breaks throughout the school year. The need for change in the school calendar is very crucial, and be beneficial for multiple purposes.…
A reduction in school financial cost may be a great factor considered when moving to a four-day school week. Transportation costs are reduced, as well as utility costs to the school. It would save a lot of money, especially in rural districts. Money would also be saved by the reduction in use of electricity and by not paying the employees for the fifth day of the week. Researchers report that districts implementing a four-day week have found savings on utilities, school buses, cafeteria programs, long-term building wear and tear, as well as, the pay for substitute teachers. In their evaluation of the implementation of a four-day week in Webster County, KY, Yarbrough and Gilman report savings amounting to two percent of the school system’s budget.…
Who wouldn’t want a four day school week? This would be really beneficial. In my opinion a four days of school each week sounds good.…
Public school are one of the ways our kids get their education. Studying is something kids have an issue with. Less stress is something students think will happen if they attend school four days a week. Yes, it would seem they have more time to study and less stress. They also think that they could make more sense of what they may be doing in class with almost a three-day weekend but is that really the truth? Teenager only think of partying, not attending school five days a week will hinder them in the long run. What will they learn? How will they get a clean understanding of what they are…
Also, students might need help from teachers. Some students don’t learn as fast as the others and need extra help. If the student doesn’t get help they will not be able to there work. And some parents didn’t even learn half the stuff schools learn today. When I’m stuck on math homework I ask my mom for help and she can’t because she didn’t learn it. So When I need help I go to my older cousins houses for them to help me. But if there is a bad snowstorm and school was canceled for it my mom shouldn’t get out of the house and we possibly wreck just to do my school work. Indeed schools shouldn’t have e days.…
It can be enough that kids have 8 hours of school each day doing classwork, learning, taking quizzes, test, notes, and so much more - now they even have to do homework after school. On the usual students get assigned homework that takes (some of us) at least 3.2 hours in one day. Weekly it’s usually 14 hours. Other kids take more than 3 hours to finish their homework just for one day. That’s too much homework taking away precious time from our lives. NOT to count in how much more time we spent getting ready, eating, doing after school activities, doing chores, and making up…
“In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you’re given a test that teaches you a lesson.” -Tom Bodett. On April 14th, 2014 there was an education article written about how long days make “ghosts” of children dropped at school gates. The children were literally draining from how long school is. Fifty percent of teachers say that schools should be no more than 5 hours. Ninety- three percent of the teachers even commented on how they could see “damaged pupils’ abilities to concentrate (Ratcliffe)”; therefore, the school day is too long.…
Another reason kids should not have homework on the weekend is that there are things that the kids need to catch up on, because they don’t have time during the week. During the week, kids have homework and maybe some after…
Secondly, school hours are too much time. When pupils stay seven hours a day to school, they don’t…
