A lot of valuable information is given to the reader throughout the book Ultimate Deer Food Plots by Ed Spinazzola. Personally, I’ve been able to take everything presented in the text relatively easily with the help of my prior knowledge. All of the advice in this book is relative to my life every year. If I had to choose however, the points that have stuck with me the most are: the importance of correcting soil as well as past vs. present land management layouts. Both of these topics are so important when trying to create great hunting land. Starting with soil correction, I have always known how critical it is to have good soil (based off of my own food plot results). My dad and I’s first food plots didn’t turn out great, as expected. Barely…
The main point made in the reading passage is that sharing the ownership of lands, which is called commons, made more benefits for everyone in the colonies of New England. However, the professor argues that commons did not work well in reality.…
In an essay in 1833, William Forster Lloyd outlined a phenomenon called the “tragedy of the commons.” The tragedy of the commons can be defined as individuals acting only for their personal benefit, thus depleting a necessary group resource to the point that it cannot recover (“Tragedy”). This issue reared its head in the state of North Carolina recently due to the gas shortage caused by a damaged pipeline.…
In Richard Connell’s short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” Rainsford changes his entire philosophy about hunting. For example, when Whitney disagreed with him about jaguars he said, “You’re a big-game hunter, not a philosopher. Who cares how a jaguar feels?”(Connell). Rainsford believes animals have no understanding of what is happening, therefore, it’s okay to hunt them. He doesn’t care if they feel pain or understand death and shows no remorse. In addition, when General Zaroff set the hounds to get Rainsford, he “knew now how an animal at bay feels” (Connell). Rainsford has to run away, set traps, and continuously risk his life to have a better chance at surviving. He felt the way animals do when they are being hunted and finally understood…
The Commons was described as a large open forest area that was open for anyone to utilize. In the modern world, there is no such thing as a Commons. With Andy’s lecture I can understand the comparison between the peasants of old England and the peasants of modern “poor” countries. The peasants of England were pictured as helpless, but even through all these adversities, the Commons were a place to go if all else fails. Peasants of today have no similar options, but instead are shut out of society and left to protect themselves. Something that the two parties share is that both lived (or have lived) in a society that is dominated by the rich. The wealthy have the power to control the resources the poor have access to like how the Commons were taken from the…
The idea of hunting to humans is when one human kills an animal for sport or for food, but we have never thought of what it would be like to be hunted ourselves. For instance, that is what happens in the story ¨The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, the protagonist Sanger Rainsford Falls off his ship and washed up on Ship-Trap Island. Rainsford then finds General Zaroff, who likes to hunt humans, and he comes to the conception that the General is a little disturbing. In that time, they come to different point of views on hunting. General Zaroff decides to hunt Rainsford on the Island, and Rainsford escape General Zaroff only to come back to him and fight him to the death. Furthermore, The theme of the story is that there is danger in…
It was a cold winter of 1704 and an English settlement that was in the mid Connecticut River valley, became a place for a great intercultural, international conflict. Deerfield was raided by French and Native forces in an ongoing struggle with the English for control of native lands and resources. Native American peoples; French, English, and Africans; soldiers, ministers, farmers and traders; men, women, and children; they were all affected by these conflicts. Deerfield had been prepared for this attack as they had gotten word that it might happen. They had soldiers and a fortress ready, although it would appear to not be enough.…
The people who have never hunted or are too squimmish to harvest for their own may conseive that hunting is cruel and excrutiating for wildlife. However, the dudy of a hunter is to end its life quickly and harvest the animal. To achieve this task the hunter will pratice his marksmanship and utalize his equipment to ensure that his prey ends humainely as possible. This way of death is a lot better than the slaughterhouses and what mother nature can offer.…
It is a freezing twenty-two degrees outside. Even though it is still too dark to see, as you look over the hills, you see a breathtaking sunrise that will soon creep through the heavy fog. Every breath that you take is like smoke coming out of a dragon's nostrils. As you are waiting patiently, still, and quietly, you finally see your kill, the white-tail deer. Without a doubt, the white-tail deer should be hunted.…
Mid evening on that October night. It was a chilly night, low forties maybe, and a little breezy. My dad and I set off for my grandfather’s property in Marshall at three in the afternoon. We were getting ready to hunt.…
One month before opening day of deer season I had to get my guns ready. I had to clean and remove the little rust that was on them. I had to sight them in, I also have to get my bow ready for bow season. I’m going to sight my guns in today. And trapping starts tomorrow so I half to get my traps ready.…
The whitetail deer are one of the most populated animals in the world. All over the world, many people use them for meat and fur. Deer are very intelligent and wild animals that wander everywhere in the world and we still don't know everything about them. People still wonder today where deer originate from, why they are so fast, and how did deer became so populated.…
In the world we live in today, animals everyday get killed brutally, and are lacerated with no thought of their family at all. poachers are uneducated people that kill animals, so they can keep their torn off heads, and brag about being a killer to their friends with proof. Hunting is a big issue in our world, with poachers killing lots of animals, they end up going extinct. 23% of animal extinctions have been from hunting in the past 400 years! Such animals include the:…
Its 5:00am i just got up and got dressed in my hunting gear. i grabbed my gun and got into the truck where my dad was already waiting. He said, “Are you ready for your first hunt”. I said yes tiredly and we took off. when we arrived to the property we were hunting on we parked the truck and and walked to the hunting shed. When we arrived we opened the door and sat our chairs down. the hunting shed was a small box looking thing that our family have been using for around 40 years We waited and waited and then I saw something out of the corner of my eye. It was a doe i turned my head slowly and saw it about 100 yards away and thought is was a done deal. I picked up my gun and as I did I saw the deer running and by the time it stopped…
