and such political actions were a “reaction of weakness and fear”. This is exactly what is occurring here, by ending DACA because of a patriotic belief that immigrants are a threat to their nation, Americans are causing damage to the economy.
A study was done by Centre for Migration Study (2017) proves that by ending DACA and removing those who are undocumented would bring the median household income 50 percent down to $20,000 from $40,000. However, those who support Trump do not see this and believe that his actions are protecting America. Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority Leader, believed that Trump had corrected Obama’s “fundamental mistake” (Kopan, 2017). The Pew Research Centre study (Severe 2017) conducted this year, found that the 8 million out of the 11.3 million undocumented citizens in the United States were working in U.S. labour force. Therefore, Trump’s plan for mass deportation promises an unfavourable change in labour forces, depending on whether the documents citizens will pick up the jobs left behind (Severe 2017). Barak Obama released a statement saying that Trump’s decision was not legally required and was a question of moral to Americans who have supported it (Kopan 2017). He understood that ending DACA would not raise wages, lower unemployment rates or any of the other fears that Trump supporters believed immigrants were causing (Kapan 2017). To conclude, it is evident as to how a nationalistic ideal can cause dire conclusions, especially on the topic of Americans choosing to end DACA and cause mass deportation due to their need to protect the state from whom they believe are enemies.
