Honor can mean respect and esteem shown to another, it may also apply to the recognition of one's right to great respect or to any expression of such recognition in some instances it implies profound respect mingled with love, devotion. There is a priceless respect that everyone in the world possesses, and that is the respect of a person’s honor. A person’s honor is something that cannot be bought, sold, or traded it’s something that must be gained by the respect of your peers. An example of how honor is seen in everyday life in through a person’s word. The standard dictionary definition of honor first lists public regard and esteem under the word, with ethical conduct or high standards of justice and responsibility appearing much further down the list. This is reflected in the way the modern world treats the issue of honor. In ancient times, honor was the manner of being that we now describe as having integrity. In plain language, an honorable person avoids deception whenever possible, treats others with respect and sticks to her beliefs no matter how others think or act. People generally do not seem to behave very well toward each other anymore. Honor determines the hierarchy of an individual while revealing his loyalty and true intentions. Reward comes for those at the top whose honor does not diminish, while a false or fleeting honor of a lesser mortal causes…

On July 11, 1804, what was said to be the most prominent duel occurred. The duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton was remarkable as it corresponded to the young, emergent nation because it illustrated the bloodshed that politicians would go through for their political reputation. Joseph J. Ellis spent an entire chapter discussing this conspicuous event for that very reason. Ellis purposely made this chapter the first chapter because he wished to provide evidence that supports his thesis and also catches the reader's attention.…
The definition of honor is to be highly respected or privileged. To me honor means that you have full respect for someone, but if you are the person that is displaying the honor you should have a good attitude, a reason for people to want to look up to you, and always be accountable.…
Honor is respect that is given to someone to someone who is admired, has a good reputation, and high moral standards of behavior. I believe honor is respect given to people who have done good things, and is a good role model. Rachel Carson is an honorable person because she advanced the global environmental movement through her writings and that is a good thing. She influenced a lot of people in the 20th century.…
Honor is like personality: it changes over time, it’s different person to person, and culture effects it. Honor can be and is defined in different ways by different people. Honor can be seen as a simple good deed or risking something precious or very important for the sake of someone else. Honor has changed over time from the past to the present and it’s different throughout cultures, American or not.…
Honor means to stand up in what you believe in. I believe standing up for God, my country, and my family is something that keeps me gold. My parents both took an oath to honor and protect our country. I feel that I will lose my honor when my parents lose theirs.…
There are many concepts, that Americans are exposed to- and even use- in their regular day to day lives, that are not very clearly defined. Maybe these concepts are too confusing. Or too broad to clearly understand. Or they’re just vague. Or, perhaps, maybe these concepts simply are not valued enough within that American “go-go-go” mindset to have time taken to really think about and understand what they mean. One of these cheapened, romanticized concepts, is honor. Honor always has, and always will, exist in some way or form in every single society, including America, however morphed and faded it might be.…
Honor is a difficult concept to characterize due to the fact that the definition of honor has changed over time and varies from culture to culture. In past times, honor was very different from that of today. The definition of honor has modified over time due to change in culture and time itself. In the past, honor was often a popular topic and that can be seen throughout the poems and plays of past writers.…
I believe the purpose of the honor council and the honor code is to establish guidelines for the students by the students. If the honor code was manufactured solely by teachers, students would see it simply as another rule set by teachers. If established and created by students, I believe the code is more relatable and easier to obey. Having students in the position of making and enforcing the rules allows them to use their own personal experience and opinions. This allows the code and rules to be more specifically tuned to students. Students can understand more than anyone else in Country Day the hardship of obeying all school rules. Having that knowledge would better prepare them to make fair rules and enforce them in an equally fair fashion.…
The word honor is mainly used in good terms. Honor is when you have gained high respect from many people. They respect you. You are most likely a good leader. If you are honored you probably get special privileges. Many people will obey and listen to you because they honor you. They do this because nobody wants to show respect to a bad person. You are a trustworthy person and people can depend on you to do things. Overall this treatment should give you high self esteem. Most people strive to be an honorable person and honor others.…

Honor to different people can mean completely different things, so it’s almost impossible to come up with one solid definition of what honor is. To some people being a brave soldier and dying for your country is honorable. For others, it’s being a missionary in a poor African country. While the deeds that are considered honorable may be different, I think it all goes back to my point of being an individual and doing what you think is right. Those missionaries don’t go to Africa for a vacation. They go there to bring the word of God. Those soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen aren’t out there dying for no reason, they are risking their lives to ensure America stays free. While those instances maybe different, they have one thing in common, and that is that in both instances the actions are done because of some moral conviction to do what is right. These people are few and far between these days, and it’s really a breath of fresh air to see people with some kind of morality these days.…
