Fallacious has been one of those words that are being used often in our society today. At first, I used to think that fallacious reasoning is a way in which we human beings think about a situation but to my surprise, I was proven wrong of what the real meaning fallacious reasoning is. Fallacious reasoning according to Purdue owl is a “common errors in reasoning that will undermine the logic of your argument which can be illegitimate arguments or irrelevant points”. In general, to my understanding, it is a decline reasoning or argument which includes: Attacking a person, hasty generalization, appeal to ignorance, begging the question, false dilemma, either, and ad populum.

It is a circumstance whereby “an individual presents their argument in such a way where there are only two possible options”. An example of this can be deciding with friends whether to go out and eat or go home and cook or telling a friend that if he/she votes for a particular candidate that means that they are like that candidate. We see this mostly during school or political elections. Next, either is a conclusion that oversimplifies the argument by reducing it to only two sides or choice. For instance, is either you walk faster or you will be left behind or either you take the bus to school or you stay at home. Many times we see ourselves doing this because we want to get our message across. Lastly, Ad populum. It is a condition of “emotional appeal that speaks to positive example”.
