What do you see when you look at your significant other? Are they building you up, or tearing you down! Find the meaningful things that are small, not the enormous things that are obvious. The reason I say this is because we all have a belief or definition as to how we define our “soul mate”. Many people have very strong opinions about what they feel is the right way to explain it but to me a soul mate is a person who is simply a reflection of yourself. When you see yourself in a mirror do you see bad or good? Asking this question can help you realize what needs to be fixed and what doesn’t.
I’m not saying that you are a bad person or a good person, I say do you see bad or good because when you’re …show more content…
in a relationship with someone that person will either bring out the best in you or simply bring out the worst side you have. It’s like fire with a jug of gasoline or a crystal that shimmers off a sun beam. Either way the person sitting next to you holding your hand is a meaning of something.
I read a quote one day and it has really opened up how I see the term soul mate, Elizabeth Gilbert wrote this quote and she couldn’t have hit the nail on the head any better.
She states “People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that’s what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that is holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life. A true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then leave. A soul mates purpose it to shake you up, tear apart your ego a little bit, show you your obstacles and addictions, break your heart open so new light can get in, make you so desperate and out of control that you have to transform your life, then introduce you to your spiritual …show more content…
master…”
When I read this quote it gave me a sense of relief because there is always at least one person in your life that you found love for before actually being in love with someone to marry.
For instance, some people who have a high school sweetheart think that there love will be forever, and some actually might stay together forever, but in most cases they wont be. This is where the soul mate definition I believe in comes in play. When you lose the person you were madly in love with in high school or anytime you found your first feeling of love you’re loosing a piece of yourself. But in return of loosing that small piece that you will never get back, you also gained some knowledge on yourself. New strengths you never knew were there have shined through, Knowledge on what to do and what not to do in a new relationship, the fact that you see yourself in pain but yet somehow feel a sense of relief that you can see new doors being opened to new
experiences.
Some of society believes that your soul mate is one who comes in your life and you have a connection beyond any other levels of life that they couldn’t live without each other. Some people say that signs of a soul mate include: you have crossed paths before even if you didn’t know it, you embrace each others flaws and grow from them, there is no jealousy involved, also that you can have a conversation without fear ect. I don’t believe in this, Elizabeth Gilbert’s quote speaks truth when it comes to a soul mate. She has excellently wrote down a good definition for a soul mate and from my experiences with life it couldn’t be more true! When you see your partner, look at yourself, what do you see? Dark, cloudy and gray colors, that are holding you back, or someone who has a connection level with you that you don’t see imperfections at all? Everything happens for a reason! Let that reason shine on and find out who your soul mate is!
