Definition Essay: The White Lie
When I got home today, my grandmother told me that she is going to put gas in my car from her previous use of it. Wary of what she said, I became hesitate to give her my keys. As she took my keys and proceed out the door, I knew she was not going to the gas station. After enduring hours without my car, my grandmother returned with a wary facial expression. The next morning, I went to start my vehicle and I peeked at the gas indicator to see it on empty. Instead of filling up my vehicle, she went to Walmart to obtain facial accessories. People will lie for any reason to make another individual feel a certain way. There are easy ways to tell if someone is lying is to:look at their facial expression, their voice, their body gestures, or the lie itself. If you can define any of these actions, you can simply expose the lie within seconds of it being told to whomever. But the real question is, what other types of lies are there? Approximately, nearly anyone you know has told a lie before. One of the most common told lie is the white lie. The white lie, is told by many people to tell a simple lie. Many other people refers the the out and out lie as the natural lie. For example, your parents see some glass shatter and you standing next to it. Afterwards, you stand there with a wary expression on your face, and reply saying it wasn’t you. Clearly, glass doesn’t fall magically, and you know that it was you who broke the glass object. Out and out lies also can help brighten the mood. Parents would have look at the incident, knowing that you were the one who did it. These two conventional lies are nearly the same exact for altering the mood behavior. This lie is as common as the white lie,

After revisiting Ericsson's interpretation of the ways we lie, I stumbled upon a quote were she stated “It is an act of subtle arrogance for anyone to decide what is best for anyone else”. She was inferring that an individual can not imply that their suggestion is the best option for anyone else. Clearly, that statement is true for numerous reasons. An individual can not state a suggestion towards someone saying it is best for them. While in reality, it's just a faulty lie. People would rather give inaccuracy information instead of telling the honest truth. For example,my neighbor ask for cooking advice and I shelter he or she with lies such as”Your cooking is nice and tasteful”. When in reality I could just give he or she the advice they need to improve their cooking. With that said, white lies (as Ericsson refers to) are genuinely feeling holders.…

The dictionary defines a lie as, “a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood.” However, while the intent of a lie is to deceive, that deceit is not always intended to cause detriment to others. Lies can be told for justifiable reasons such as to protect the feelings of others, but more often lies are told for the wrong reasons. For example, lies are mostly told to avoid the consequences of one’s actions such as with criminal activities and academic misconduct. When comparing acceptable and unacceptable reasons to lie, the unacceptable reasons greatly outnumber the acceptable.…

Additionally, some of the rest of the ways listed such as “the white lie”, “facades”, “ignoring the plain facts”, “omission”, “stereotypes and clichés”, “dismissal”, and “delusion” all have their upsides as well as their downsides. Telling a white lie may benefit you and the person told in the short-term but in the long-term it can cause a lot of damage. As far as the façade goes, it’s always nice to have someone think of you as the way they would want to see you but in the long-term it’s not beneficial to act like someone you are not. Ignoring the plain facts could do a great deal of harm depending on what is being ignored. If you are going along with the example in the article about Father James Porter, it is very harmful and there isn’t any upside to that scenario. Omission could do little harm but it depends on the kind of information that is being omitted from the truth. With stereotypes and clichés, you have to remember that they may…
