Definition Essay: What Does Love Mean?
It might sound cheesy, but it’s true. Love has many different ways of meaning to me. Love is caring about something or someone deeply and truly. A couple of days ago, I was watching a movie where an English teacher asks her students to discuss ‘what is love’. Majority of the class did not know how to respond. At first, I found this odd considering that love is a universally understood emotion that can be felt by most human beings. We express the emotion on a daily basis, whether it be towards our family, friends, or significant others. However, upon some introspection, I realized that it is difficult to come up with a solid definition for it because of its subjective nature. Love exists in many different forms and holds different meanings for different people.…

Prospero’s infamous speech beginning ‘Ye elves of hills’ is derived from Golding’s 1603 translation of Medea’s incantations in Ovid’s Metamorphoses and marks Prospero’s relinquishment of his magical arts. Critics have synonymised the ‘magic’ of Shakespeare’s plays to the magic of Prospero implying that Prospero is a replica of Shakespeare. Thus the phrase ‘Il drowne my booke’ not only shows Prospero’s renunciation of magic but also signifies Shakespeare’s departure from the playwriting world.…

I am a member of the country of Begonia’s Grand Council on Ethics. The council has been given charge of deciding whether or not our country of Eggnonia is morally obligated to send famine relief to the neighboring country of Furesia. As you all know in centuries past, both countries had thriving economies that were based on the frazzle. I am sure you all know this animal very well. The problem is that the frazzles no longer grow fur when in captivity and the Furesian economy is in ruin because of their reliance on the frazzle fur. We are the ones that put the frazzles in captivity so are we morally obliged as a prosperous nation to aid the country of Furesia in their time of need?…

"Your life and my life flow into each other as wave flows into wave, and unless there is peace and joy and freedom for you, there can be no real peace or joy or freedom for me. To see reality- not as we expect it to be, but as it is- is to see that unless we live for each other and in and through each other, we do not really live very satisfactorily; that there can really be life only where there really is, in just this sense, love. "1 Most of our lives consist of socializing with others, beginning new relationships, and strengthening old ones. Love is all around us, embodied in three main categories: parental or family love, love between friends, and "chemical love," between a male and female. Each of these is experienced in a different way; each of these is approached in a different way. However, all of them share one common quality- they are unplanned, unpredicted, and unexpected. This is what gives love its beauty. Because we do not expect it, we appreciate it greatly, realizing how poor our lives have been (or would have been) without it. We simply learn to love love.…
