Delano Roosevelt's Childhood
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882 in the Hudson Valley town in New York to his father James Roosevelt and mother Sara Ann Delano Roosevelt. This family that he was born into was a wealthy one, they made themselves a fortune through real estate and trade. Roosevelt was an only child, he lived in springwood in New York city with his family. Until the age of fourteen, Roosevelt was educated by tutors and governesses however in 1986 he started attending Groton School for boys. This schooling experience was a hard one though because Roosevelt felt as though he did not belong because of his lack of athletic knowledge. Despite this Roosevelt graduated from Groton School for boys in 1900 and moved on to Harvard where he studied law and found his future wife. While at Harvard Roosevelt was only receiving c’s and was described by many as just an average student. …show more content…
Eleanor was niece of Roosevelt's idol, Theodore Roosevelt. They started forming a relationship and got married on March 17th 1905. At the time Roosevelt was 23 years old and Eleanor was 21 years old. Roosevelt's mother, Sara Ann Delano was not happy about this though and tried everything in her power to break up the marriage. Once married the young couple moved into the family estate in Hyde Park. During this marriage Eleanor gave Roosevelt five children, one daughter and four sons. Anna Roosevelt Halsted born in 1906, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Jr. born in 1914, John Aspinwall Roosevelt born in 1916, Elliott Roosevelt born in 1910 and James Roosevelt born in 1907
