Delta Sigma Theta Personal Statement
I want to commit my mind, body and soul to a community of like-minded individuals who would rather do the work to find a solution and act on it, instead of simply complaining about the problem. I as an educator cannot sit idle as the people of this world suffer, my purpose is to enlighten students with knowledge so that when they come of age they too may offer their services to those less fortune than themselves. I was raised with the understanding that it takes a village to raise a child and Delta Sigma Theta has always been that village to me. Pointing me in the proper direction, and assisting me through obstacles as they present themselves. Now it is time for me to give back to the community that guided me. Though sisterhood, scholarship, …show more content…
As an educator I give my life to serving children and their families.
However, I am no longer complacent with being ignorant to the other key points that Delta Sigma Theta looks at. I want to provide my life to helping not only those in need of education but also those in foreign lands, helping educate people on how to survive in an economically challenged society, staying informed on the political issues we face, and staying on top of our health together. No one person can do it alone, we must become conscious as a community and enlighten those who are stuck in the dark. We must guide everyone to the table so that they can have their slice of the P.P.I.E.E.
I want to commit my short existence on this earth to a cause I believe is worthy of our God and truly a beacon of hope for all people. I want to educated my people in the scholastic arts, so that they too may pass the treasure that is Knowledge. I want to educate my community on all the issues we face, so that we no longer have to fear them in silence, but rather come together and create an open, honest, and safe dialogue about these issues. This sorority in my opinion aligns with my views and purpose, which is why I know in my heart that that cause and community is Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. In conclusion I would like to that the Gamma Tau chapter for it kind consideration of allowing me to

Sigma Alpha Sigma- a name foreign to those apart from my educational setting. A vast amount of students throughout my school follow this name, seeking leadership experience or someone to be led by. Despite a lack of recognition, Sigma Alpha Sigma possesses drastic influence on the community and on the pursuits of education. As a timorous freshman approaching a dauntingly large high school, I was thrown into an abyss of unknowns. My freshman year, I noticed the Greek letters of Sigma Alpha Sigma pass by, reflecting as if they were fluorescent signs. This organization, I learned early on, was crafted to remove the gap between students and teachers while empowering the future leaders of the world. Sigma, to me, has been one of my most significant…

My desire to be an Alpha man strongly revolves around the fraternity’s aims, mission statement, and vision. These principles and values of Alpha are something that resonates deeply with how I try to develop myself as a man within an academic setting as well the local community. The fraternity itself set the standard for which other Black Greek fraternities and sororities would follow as being the first inter-collegiate fraternal organization established for African-Americans with the sole purpose of mutual uplift and support. There has never been a time when Alpha Phi Alpha fell short of producing men whose leadership and service to the community made an impact on the lives of African-Americans especially the youth. This is why Alpha Phi Alpha stood out to me in a…

I thought that this type of life wasn’t for me. My perspective changed when I met some of the talented, responsible, studious men of the organization, known as Phi Iota Alpha at SIU. I realized that this fraternity is a place where I belong. If I were to have honor to be accepted into this organization, I would hope to gain a range of leadership opportunities from events that are hosted. I’m looking to gain a networking and academic support system where I can have someone to guide me when I am on the wrong path. Most importantly, if I were to join Phi Iota Alpha, I’m looking to get a family/brotherhood because I admire how they’re unified amongst themselves and demonstrate this unity on campus. This brotherhood would allow me to share my culture with those that understand where I come from and will help me learn about the Hispanic community associated with Greek life and the campus. Thank you for considering me as a candidate, I think I can be a great asset to Phi Iota…

From there, I hope to study to be accepted into medical school and specialize in pediatrics. When preparing for medical school, the advice one hears are to become a well-rounded student. Through my DECA experiences I have been able to develop leadership skills that will help me thrive in my future. Over the three years I have been involved, I have stepped out my comfort zone and made a difference in my local DECA chapter, community, and my future. Now taking the responsibility of being a DECA officer, as the chapter president, has allowed me to continue to grow and develop my leadership, communication, and social skills. Working with the Milan DECA Chapter members has proven how difficult and enjoyable being a leader is. At times leading so many events can be stressful; however, the completion of the events pushes me further. In order to reach the goal of becoming ‘well-rounded’, I used DECA skills to organize my time to join other extracurriculars within my community. Along with DECA, I participate in 4-H which is a non-profit organization in counties all across the nation that prepares youth to make a positive impact on their communities. Furthermore, I lead my 4-H club in a Relay For Life team through the American Cancer Society. Additionally, I am a dedicated musician, drum major, and the first Milan High School Flute Choir Director. I am an active participant in the peer education program at Milan High School. I am so thankful for the opportunities to be a leader within my class, school, community, county, and…
