Delusions And Hallucinations In Black Swan

The delusions and hallucinations that Nina experiences through the film were horrifying and confusing because they seem so realistic that I could not distinguish the reality from fantasy. She is scratching her body and has dermatophagia (eating her own skin), yet, because of delusions, these scratches and wounds result in a bloody scene. Her transformation to the Black Swan, the dark side of her, was pretty violent. That sensitive girl turns into a cold-blooded killer. I thought she really kills Lily, but she just experiences a psychosis. She even harms her mother. She has anorexia, so she made me feel stressed and unhealthy. Her struggles, ambition and anxiety to be perfect were annoying and stressful for me. Her mother Erica is also problematic because she has been a queen before. She is obsessed with control, and doesn’t let Nina be herself, make her own choices, and grow up as an independent woman. She is a narcissist. Her self-portraits which she draws as she cries gave me heart
At the closing scene, Nina is smiling as a triumphant even if she should be in pain. She shows that all the hardships worth this feeling of being the best. So, I think the dominant message is this. I disagree with it, because being at the top doesn’t last long as can be observed with Beth. Our health, inner peace and psychological well-being are much more important than that. If we give up on the characteristics, merits, ideals and emotions that making us the person who we are, what would be left from us except being famous or successful. That’s why; consuming oneself just for a temporary victory or feeling superior is not a healthy approach. Yet maybe, the film leaves us to answer the question “Does it worth it?”. My answer is
