During the Cold War, the ongoing battle between Democracy and Communism was stronger than ever before, resulting in several countries being divided. One of the most significant examples was in Germany, which divided Berlin into the Communist East side and Democratic West. These two regions were separated by a barrier known as the Berlin Wall that lasted from 1961 to 1989. Two other countries that were divided were Vietnam and Korea. Many people felt severe negative repercussions throughout the conflict. In the case of Hungary, many people were upset with the removal of their leader Imre Nagy by the Soviet Government. One pirate radio broadcast pleaded, “For the sake of God and freedom, help Hungary!” The people of Korea also struggled during the Korean War. The conditions in South Korea were extremely violent and chaotic, as described by Sook Nyul Choi: “Our freedom and happiness did not last long… They were shot with machine guns, and then hanged in the town square to serve as a lesson to others.”
In conclusion, the Cold War ended up drastically affecting many other countries around the world in addition to the United States and the Soviet Union.
