Democracy Vs Athenian Democracy
As citizens of a modern democracy, we know that our democratic system in the 21st century was much different compared to the Athenian’s democratic system. There were many negative and positive aspects throughout the Athenian democracy. In contrast to today, the Athenian’s were very straight forward with politics and the community had a voice. The people were able to share their perspectives and opinions. Although many values, ideas, and assumptions helped mold the aristocratic name, equality was not one of them. In the Athenian democracy, women were prohibited from all features of social and political life, while men were glorified. Without permission, women managed to marry older men at a young age. This shows that the democratic system was
weak and jumbled especially when compared to our modern democratic system.
Our system today allows us, the people, to vote for one person to lead the country. This may be where the Athenians failed; they had too many people trying to run the government. This could have been chaotic and it probably lead to complications. Their ways were very unorganized whereas today our ways are much more organized. We need strength and organization in order to succeed.
