Demonstration Speech: Blackjack 101
1. HISTORY
i. Different versions of BLACKJACK can be traced all the way back to FRANCE in the 17th Century. ii. The game was originally called 21, which is relevant to the objective of the game. iii. The version of BLACKJACK we are most familiar with derived in the United States in the 19th Century. iv. Today, BLACKJACK is most known and popular in the United States, Canada, Australia, and Europe to name a few.
2. TERMINOLOGY
i. BLACKJACK - First 2 cards are an "ACE" (A) and a "10" (10, J, Q, and K). ii. HIT - Take another card. (Objective: Try to get to or as close to 21 as possible) iii. STAND - Play no more cards and keep the hand you currently have. iv. BUST - Total amount of cards went over 21, which results in an automatic loss.
v. PUSH - Tie. vi. SPLITTING PAIRS - Splitting cards of the same value (Dealt two 8's). Player must double original bet. vii. DOUBLE DOWN - Taking a 3rd card after receiving the first two cards (Cannot take another card). Player must double original bet.
3. RULES OF THE GAME
i. A dealer and one to seven players. All players play against the dealer, not each other. ii. Played with one or more decks of 52 cards. iii. Player(s) places their bets before any cards are dealt. (The amount bet is the amount to win) iv. Dealer must continue to HIT until total of cards are 17 or more.
4. VALUE OF CARDS
i. All face cards are worth 10 points (Jacks, Queens, and Kings). ii. Aces are worth 1 or 11points. iii. All other cards are worth the same points as the number shown on the cards.
5. OBJECT OF THE GAME
i. In a given round, the player or the dealer wins by having a score of 21 or by having the highest score closest to 21. ii. Scoring higher than 21 (BUST) results in an automatic loss. iii. The player, including the dealer is dealt two cards at the start of the game, and must hit or stand,
