The Danish health care system is organized into three political and administrative levels which are national, regional and municipal levels. In 2007 the public sector was reformed in which was charged for example municipal and regional divisions. In the reform the number of regions were lowered from 14 to 5 and the municipalities from 275 to 95. (Health Care in Denmark 2008, 7–8, HiT 2012.)

Especially in the border areas malaria, tuberculosis and HIV are significant problems of public health. Continuing high mortality rates due to for example poor accessing to health services and persisting problems with poverty and nutrition. The child mortality rates have decreased recently.
