Dental Hygienist Observation Report
Dr. Sim graduated dental school at Oklahoma University. He finished another year of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Program at Wichita State University that offers the opportunity for advanced comprehensive clinical experience. He started his first job at Smart Teeth dentistry in town after he received training. My first major was dental hygiene before health science. So I have been working as a volunteer in the Smart Teeth for several months because I want to gain experience at the medical field. After a long period of monitoring, I was considered a competent dentist. Now he became my family’s dentist. Last year he has opened his own practice, he is located at Harry and Greenwich. When I asked for shadowing permission, he …show more content…
One of the deep cleaning I observed was a patient with infection. I was extremely surprised to see the patient bleed during the cleaning. I think that visiting the dentist on a regular basis is very important because he or she keep their teeth clean and healthy. I could realize many patients discovered about their teeth’s condition through cleaning. I was able to see Dr. Sim perform many root canals, crowning teeth, and filling cavities during three days. Through shadowing I learned that being a dentist and dental hygienist are a very important position with lots of responsibility to their patients. It was time to learn again how important trusts between the doctor and patients. I believe that when patients develop this trust, they are more likely to comply with doctors’ recommendations and therefore get better care. This shadowing helped me realize the importance of good relationships between employer and employees. I can see they always had each other to rely on for help. I was impressed by the excitement and enthusiasm they had for their jobs, and for the company as a whole. I have not decided where to work after graduation. If I work, I felt inclined to work in such a pleasant work

The Nashville Veterans Affairs (VA) dental clinic was a beneficial learning experience because it was a unique population. The VA is committed to improving the health of Veterans through a comprehensive and high quality system, which focuses on each patient's special needs. This mission was important because each patient I saw was completely different with special needs, but they were all similar in a few behavioral ways. My rotation at the VA clinic was helpful because each patient I saw had different medical conditions. It was interesting to learn that all of the VA records were accessible to all of a patient’s providers in the hospital. This seemed important and helpful in my opinion because everything about that patient’s medical treatments…

I often accompanied many of my relatives to their dental appointments as a translator and have always been curious about the work done in a dental office that cannot be seen during appointment visits. I was very lucky to be given an opportunity in high school to shadow a dentist for one day and personally observe various dental procedures that were performed. I have learned a lot just by observing the steps and seeing what kinds of instruments were involved. In applying for UB Dental Clinical Observation Program, I am looking for an opportunity to expand my knowledge and experience in a field that I strongly feel passionate about. The Clinical Observation Program will help me accurately understand the dynamics and responsibilities that this…

completing general dentistry, most dental schools require a letter of recommendation from a general dentist. Shadowing hours should also first come from a general dentist, then a specialized dentist. Furthermore, I have already become a member for Future Dentist Club on campus. Fransiska Lee, the free clinics coordinator for FDC, creates the bridge for students to get to know these professionals. They hold free clinics in downtown Riverside once every two weeks for three hours each. By going to these events, I can slowly build up the hours needed. There are no specific hours that are required but most dental applicants have around 300 hours (Lee, Fransiska). One imperative advice for pre-dental students from a specialist company, Gap Medics,…

My very first time ever being employed was as a dental assistant. I was impressed by the culture of kindness and professionalism that was always on display for everyone to witness. The dentist paid great attention to detail when it came to teaching all of the new assistants about keeping patients calm, keeping the instruments clean, keeping good notes, receipts, bookkeeping, and remembering different details of the patients. The dentist knew that his profession was synonymous with pain along with sadness, therefore he always made his patients of all ages extremely comfortable. The waiting area in the dentist office was always well equipped with new magazines and the best coloring books for kids and sometimes adults. Children loved coming to…
