The key challenges currently faced by the Department of Energy are mitigating the climate change, efforts to reduce the dependence on the fossil fuel, and the need to improve US energy security. Some of the actions taken by the Department of Energy plans to tackle these challenges are supporting the implementation of the President’s Climate Action Plan which aims to reduce the carbon emission, and develop alternative sources of fuel which will help reduce the dependence on oil and also help decoupling of US economy and the global oil market.
