Dependence on Technology Technology is bound to ease the work of humans and get their problems solved in a fraction of seconds. While technical advancements help us to get rid of the problems we face, it is true to a great extent that they are deteriorating our ability to think for ourselves. There is no doubt that in the long run, people will completely rely on technology for whatsoever problem they face and they will ultimately lose their ability to think for innovative solutions.

Taking the case of present scenario, one of the cases in which our mental power has gone unused is in the area of doing mathematical computations. Today, even for simple calculations like summing up the prices of items in a cash bill, we look out for the help of calculators. Calculators have entered into almost all devices we have like cellphones, i-pods, laptops etc... In the future, this could even lead to a situation, where in humans may even forget even how to do simple computations with two numbers!

Today's world is shrunken due to the widespread use of internet. Anyone seeking to know any kind of information, turns out to google the search phrase and get results in a jiffy. They cease to refer to standard texts from the library. Though people save time by googling and getting the answers, the information obtained, in most cases, ceases to be reliable. Here, the thinking power of humans to relate existing information and arrive at a conclusion is lost as people just like that get the prepared answers for whatever questions they might have.

Computers have taken a great toll on the cognitive capabilities of humans. Leave alone internet, there are numerous softwares available in the market that could do whatever a human likes to do. They can print necessary documents, sort the concerned data, prepare sales reports and what not? The advancements in the field of robotics have helped us a lot in automation; at the same time, they are leading to many controversial possibilities of a robots going against the orders of humans. These developments must be given prior thought and necessary care, in that, machines must not be allowed to take over us, the creators. Researches are in full swing to impart emotions into robots and this inturn can even lead to dangerous consequences, as robots then will be on par with the humans. Moreover, technology leads to a sedentary lifestyle in humans which affects their health - this inturn affects the thinking ability of humans.

Cellphones are of major concern, as they are advancing day by day, incorporating advanced features during each and every stage of their development. These days, people do not afford to keep in memory, neither the birthdays of their loved ones nor some important telephone numbers. All they do is to create specialized groups and put in all the important numbers there or set up a birthday remainder to remind themselves of the birthdays of their beloved friends.

Technical inventions come up so as to standardize the repititive work of human beings. But, if we allow all the repetitive important works that we do to these inventions, then ultimately we may become completely dependent on them. There will arise a situation, where we cannot even think of a life without them. Such addiction will indirectly affect our skills to ponder and take a decision. Humans have the power of multitasking, which the super computers even do not possess. Super computers seem to multitask; but they actually switch over between tasks in a fraction of seconds. Hence, comparing to whatever inventions that exist today, humans are the most powerful creatures on this earth and technology must not be able to take over humans.

Rare cases in which the claim that technology reduces the ability of humans to think for themselves include those in which technical advancements are introduced so as to aid humans in concentrating more involved problems, rather than wasting time on trivial problems. Howsoever, eventually the basic thinking skills erode away, resulting in disastrous consequences in this kind of cases. An example would be bringing in too much of science into discovering a medicine to cure ailments like cancer; the medicines are sure to cure the disease, but on the other hand, many side effects would crop up nullifying the successful result of curing the disease.

The real power of languages seem to erode away with advancements like cellphones. Today, people use condensed meaningless phrases as text messages in the name of instant communication using short message service(SMS). Though this kind of texting saves time, it will lead to grammar conflicts and will also affect usage of efficient vocabulary in realtime communication. Researches suggest that there is a strong connection between IQ and the vocabulary of a person. Hence this would surely affect the thinking abilities of humans.

Thus, analysing from various points of view, it is crystal clear that the multitude of thinking capabilities of humans will surely deteriorate when people tend to rely more towards technology to get efficient solutions for their problems.
