Depression Informative Speech
We hear about them all the time. A relative or close friend struggling with one or both of them. They're terrifying, worrying, and sadly common. I could be talking about a multiple of topics, but the two I'm going to discuss with you are depression and suicide. Depression can be caused by the loss of a loved one, divorce, bullying, losing a job, or it can even be caused by a chemical imbalance in your brain known as serotonin deficiency. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, "Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide." But, why do we call it a disability? Because some of the symptoms of depression are decreased energy, difficulty remembering and concentrating, and insomnia or oversleeping. it can also include physical pain, such as headaches or digestive issues. The World Health Organization also says that around one million people die due to suicide every year. These numbers are saddeningly high. Suicide has always been around, but in the 70s, about 13.1 people per 100,000 residential population committed suicide. But, why is the question. …show more content…
On May 4th, 1971, four students were killed and nine others wounded during a protest for the Vietnam War at Kent State University in Ohio. Another event that occurred was labeled as the "worst aviation accident on American soil." On May 26th, 1979, an engine separated from American Airlines Flight 191. All 271 people on board the plane, as well as two pedestrians on the ground, died. Not to mention the Vietnam War had been going on for almost 20 years exactly, ending in 1975.
