Depression: Specific Symptoms Of Depression
Depression is when you feel sad or down for longer than two weeks. It is defined as an extreme form of sadness that includes specific symptoms by psychologists. It is also called “Major Depressive Disorder”, and can only be diagnosed by a health professional. Depression can affect your everyday life and stop you doing things you enjoy.

Depression relates to physical, social, and emotional aspects of health. Depression can cause physical health problems such as trouble sleeping and disturbed sleeping patterns, which results in lack of energy, difficulty concentrating, and difficulty remembering things. Another physical health problem that is caused by depression is having no appetite or eating more or less than normal, that can cause weight gain/loss, and headaches or upset stomachs. Depression affects your social health, making you potentially lose friends and decrease your performance at school. You stop socialising with others because you feel less confident about yourself and therefore are less likely to make an effort to keep friendships or make new friends. Depression will affect your whole school life which includes your marks and a decreased performance at work or school. Depression can cause emotional health

Depression is known as a mental disease, but this mental disease also affects your emotional health because you are always feeling sad and you lose confidence in yourself. This, however, affects your physical and social health as you might have a decreased or increased appetite and lose sleep which influences your physical health. With lack of sleep and no confidence in yourself, it might make you lose friends or you will at least not make an effort in making new ones. All sides of health are affected by depression and that is why it is so important to educate teenagers and make them aware of the symptoms and how to get help if they need

    The poem Woman on a Beach written by Anne Michaels does an exquisite job at making an everyday event, seem so unique and unordinary. The author is really able to capture the reader’s attention by using exceptional adjectives to describe the setting and environment of the beach. This author is able to make the reader feel like they are actually there, through the use of their imagery. She is really able to describe the setting, so that the reader can almost feel the relaxation the women are feeling and have somewhat of the same experience. The symbolism however, is not as noticeable as the imagery but is still present. The main piece of symbolism is the use of the “red shirt”. Anne makes it notable that the red shirt stands out from the pale sky. The red shirt could symbolize the women in general, and how together they are strong and support one another so much that it would stand out to the rest of the people on the beach, or in this case stands out from the sky. She composes the thought of the beach being peaceful enough to allow someone to fall asleep on it, and able to spend the whole day on the beach, it seems very relaxing.
