4. Describe a good example of “reasonable ground of suspicion.” An example of a reasonable grounds for suspicions would be if a black car was reported for a robbery. A police officer notices the same color car in that area reported of the incident. At this point it would be reasonable to believe the car could be involved in the incident even if it wasn’t.
6. Describe how you felt when you read about the Abner Louima case. Do you think this incident could have been prevented? It makes me a little upset because the situation could have been avoided. There was no reason to attack Abner over a “hunch.” This could have been avoided if the officer acted rationally. For instance, if one punch was thrown that might not call for anything more than OC spray, Taser, or even regular hands on. The officer should have assessed if he was hit then taken necessary precautions. Even if the officer was justified with the use of force continuum he should have used an extendable baton or something given to him as a tool.
7. Do you feel that given the awesome power police hold, they can ever be true partners with citizens in community policing? I believe police can be partners with citizens in community policing. This is important because police need the communities help to do their job. Not only are most of the tips from citizens but they can save a police officer’s life. There was an instance where a man driving on the highway help a police officer from someone beating him to death. It is important to have the support of the community because police are vastly outnumbered. The difference between anarchy could be a good Samaritan.
