Throughout my life, I have dedicated myself to act selflessly and always attempt to best represent my community. The Larner COM commitment to service aligns with my philanthropic views of healthcare. In my experience volunteering at a local homeless clinic, we ask each patient: “If you could not have come here, where would you have gone?” Many patients’ answer is nowhere. The involvement that students maintain in the local Community Health Center of Burlington provides an opportunity to work with populations similar to those I have assist in Colorado.…

The organization I chose is Progressive HealthCare Providers that provide services for the developmentally disable who have physical and mental problems. Individuals with mental, physical disabilities as well as behavioral problems are candidates for Group Homes. These individuals are no longer secluded but are visible members of society. Lisa, I want to thank you for your post. Practicing nurses must be sure that the interventions they use are based on solid evidence. Through continuing education, practicing nurses can become aware of the research on performing activities. As nurses we have a responsibility to be researchers. As nurses we should collect and share evidence of methods of practice and measure outcomes of these practices. In working with patients and watching other nurses working with patients I concluded that some patients did not understand medical terms. After watching their reactions to certain medical terms I can tell that these patients had no idea what I was talking about. After coming to this conclusion I started to use simple lay terms and can see…
