Functional areas in a business are basically like departments so that the business can run nicely, because if there were not functional areas in a business then the business would not be able to run properly and the business itself would not be able to succeed at achieving its aims and objectives. The functional areas in a business can actually link to the businesses aims and objectives. When an employer wants to be working for the company they would be assigned to the department which they are a specialist I, so for example they could get assigned to the it and admin department because they are really good at the ict side of the business.

Now the term human resource management has now come to the point where it now means more than this because there are now people that are different from other resources that work for an organisation. Also there are people that have feeling and have thoughts, needs and aspirations. Now the term HRM has now come to be referred to an approach and it also takes into account for both.
