Describe Marijuana
Physicians should be able to prescribe marijuana for medical use in situations such as patients suffering from nausea. Marijuana has a positive effect on the appetite. This drug allows its users to become increasingly hungry, which will lead to an increased intake of food. This effect is important when suffering from nausea because the illness may lead to patients having a difficult time eating a sufficient amount of food. Unfortunately, this may lead to weight loss and a lack of consumption of an efficient amount of nutrients. However, the intake of the drug will contribute to the patient having an increased appetite despite their illness. If the patients are not able to gain relief from any other drug on the market they should be able to legally use the drug to feel better. If the patients are barred from using the drug they will be forced to continuously suffer from the pain or they may even use the drug illegally. Illegal use of the drug may lead to them being harshly punished, but I believe that this is not fair because they are seeking use of marijuana for strictly health purposes. With a prescription of a physician, their drug use will be monitored to ensure that they are taking only an appropriate amount to avoid abuse and addiction. That is an important factor because without the directions of a health professional it may contribute to the negative effects of marijuana greatly impacting the patient, but with the help of a doctor this can be avoided. An example of a negative effect mentioned in the book is the impact that marijuana has on cognition. However, similar to all other medication that is on the market today and has been in the past, there is always negative effects or side effects associated with a drug. It is the patient’s decision if they would like to either be relieved of their symptoms or avoid any drug use, and usually he patient chooses relief.
