Describe the fieldwork and research you would undertake in order to investigate changes in coastal land use over time -Weymouth

Section A - Background information:
Weymouth and Portland is the smallest district in Dorset at 16 square miles however still contains a population of 64, 460 people, meaning it has the highest density of people in the County (though not as high as Bournemouth and Poole). Weymouth and Portland are well known for the quality of their beaches and both are popular tourist resorts in the summer. The district provides approximately 20000 jobs for the local area, 41% in distribution, hotels and restaurants and 33% in administration, education and health. Weymouth and Portland public transport around is generally considered to be very useful and reliable, leading to fewer households requiring their own car.

Section B – Methodlogy:
Primary data collection:
A – To measure the period growth of the town, I would create a Goad map to investigate the rapid increase of buildings being built throughout Weymouth. I will record a building after every three and categorize them into four sections: Victorian style buildings, inter-war, 1970-90 and modern. This will enable me to measure the amount of development within Weymouth and demonstrate how much modern housing is current within the area.
The next primary source I will use to investigate the changes in coastal land over the time is to create an interview to ask locals. While I am there, I will ask people within Weymouth questions (maximum three) such as ‘do you remember when…?’ and a quick rate of the amount of coastal change from 2000 to the current year which will be out of ten. This will allow me to investigate whether the coastal land has rapidly changed throughout the years or roughly stayed the same.
My third primary investigation will include asking the general public questions. I will ask how they rate the amount of change over thirty years. This will allow evaluate and pinpoint the exact
