In Antonina’s List, an article published in 2007 for The New York Time’s Sunday book review, writer D. T. Max states, “For me, the more interesting story is Antonina’s. She was not, as her husband once called her, “a housewife,” but the alpha female in a unique menagerie. I would gladly read another book, perhaps a novel, based again on Antonina’s writings. She was special, and as the remaining members of her generation die off, a voice like hers should not be allowed to fade into the silence.”…
My initial thoughts about going having to go to the zoo for this project was that it was going to be challenging yet fun, Challenging in the sense that with my post traumatic stress disorder from the military because I have trouble being around crowds of people which is why I supposed that is why I chose to go to the Santa Ana zoo since I knew that there would be less people there, Fun in the sense that I have not been to a zoo since I was a little kid which made me excited to not only see the primate exhibit for this project but to also check out some of the other animals that were at the zoo.…
On Wednesday September 16th of 2015, I will be going to the Smithsonian National Zoo with a group of my friends. The Zoo was founded in 1889. It is one of the oldest zoos in the world. There are 1800 animals that live in the zoo. One of the most famous spots in the zoo for tourists to see is the Giant Panda exhibit. The giant pandas recently just gave birth to baby pandas. I have only been to the Smithsonian National Zoo once. I went in eighth grade for a school wide field trip. I love seeing animals and going to the zoo. Back where I am from (Delaware) there are not any zoos or big public attractions for young kids and teenagers.…

In The Zookeeper’s Wife, readers are exposed to the story of Jan and Antonina Zabinski’s life through the second world war and the Nazi reign over Poland. Throughout the course of the novel, the audience is exposed to the two sides of the Zabinski’s family: Jan’s side and Antonina’s side. Jan’s side, full of action and physical risks, is equally as important as Antonina’s side, which is full of cunning tricks and advances. Both Jan and Antonina saved the lives of hundred of Jews during the Holocaust. For these reasons, when Jan incorrectly labels his spouse as a “housewife”, he is aiding D. T. Max’s theory that Antonina is more than a “housewife”, but “the alpha female in a unique menagerie.”…
The state of Florida is considering whether or not to ban the captivity of wild/exotic animals . I think this consideration should be a action since animals are mistreated by being caged or malnourished and more .…
Human beings have all experienced guilt, the consequence of committing a wrong, and the manipulation it has on decisions. In the short story “The Tell-Tale Heart,” author Edgar Allan Poe demonstrates the theme that guilt is strong and has the power to overcome conscience; he uses characterization, the conflict, and symbolism to communicate this message. The characterization of the narrator most clearly shows this theme. In addition to Poe’s use of characterization, his decision to show the struggle the narrator endures with himself reveals the causes of the narrator to succumb to his guilt. The use of symbolism throughout the novel draws attention to the narrator’s guilt and his insanity.…
From the case, it is stated that Metropol Zoo has to make a major decision because of its poor performance over the past few years. External factors such as economy, government decisions, change in consumer behaviour and competition contributed to it. Now, it has to make a decision whether to take up virtual reality (VR) technology to make the zoo more appealing to customers or continue the way it has been doing business and stay true to its conservation mission.…
Zoos: Tiger in zoo Zoos remove animals from their natural birthplaces and companions, and confine them in unnatural surroundings. Justifications include arguments such as “they show us animals we normally wouldn’t see”; “they help rehabilitate animals”; and “they are an important educational tool in preserving endangered species.”…
A wise man once said, "Nothing fails like success." One can appreciate the clever irony in this quotation by Gerald Nachman. In the complex and often very materialistic world we live in, the question of how to measure success and self worth is certainly a relevant one. This is the very question Authur Miller addresses in his 1949 play, Death of a Salesman. Death of a Salesman follows the character Willy Loman, whom many would argue has all the wrong dreams. As he slowly starts to lose his mind in a materialistic world, it becomes clear that the only thing he is really concerned about is keeping up with the people around him in terms of success and possessions. Throughout the play, he constantly mentions the fact that he is running out of money and can no longer pay for their new appliances, and he regrets not going to Africa with Ben, who became extremely rich. Arthur Miller’s play Death of a Salesman demonstrates that one can pursue or compromise one’s own happiness when attempting to achieve success.…

The Anthony Browne picture book, “Zoo” extends well beyond simply the entertainment of children. The book is told in the first person from the perspective of a boy who visits a zoo with his family. The family consists of himself and his younger brother, his father and his mother. On the surface this book appears to compare the visitors to the zoo with the animals that they are there to see. People within the park are characterised with distinct physical animal traits and the connection between captivity and freedom are common. This theme is directly related to the mother and becomes evident throughout the story through clever subtleties. The personalities and feelings of the family in the book are ingeniously depicted in the text and the illustrations, providing a deeper understanding of both whom the characters are and the insight into the reason for their behaviours. The gender discourses found throughout the text and illustrations are not unintentional but a representation of the dangers of modelling inappropriate gender roles and behaviours to children.…
Everyone thinks that Disney World is fun but when I was 4 I thought it was scary. All of those princess’ and scary statues scared me. But the rides were even worse. When I saw the Rockin’ Rollercoaster I freaked out. I knew that my mom would make me try a new something new like the Rockin Rollercoaster. And that's exactly what she did. I don’t really like trying new things but I knew that my sister and my mom would do it too and they wanted to have fun with me. Somehow she knew that I would love that ride.…
For many people, the zoo is a source of fond memories and funny childhood story’s like the swinging monkey, growling tigers and the others animals. Sometimes when we watch the animals in a captivity jumping through a flaming hoop or stand on its hind legs, it becomes easy to forget about all the abuse that the animals have been through. The animals may not like to do these things that we human feel amused about. They may prefer their own habitat if they had choices. Some people and I see zoos as prisons where innocent creatures are unjustly held captive, to me zoos are a collection of unhappy animals.
