Descriptive Essay: Air National Guard Base
With the gigantic Boeing-747 roaring down the runway I could hardly contain my excitement. I was in 6th grade at Savanna Oaks when I met the president for the first time. As a eleven year old meeting the president of the united states was very nerve racking. I had no idea what to expect when i shook his hand except to say “Nice to meet you Mr.President.” Before all this people think it's easy to go on to a Air National Guard Base where the president will be but it's not. There are many things that happen before you even step foot on the base like many check points. the list. Then if you are you go to the next checkpoint and there you get swept for bombs by dogs and more men with guns and a Secret Service agent who tells you where to park. Finally you get to park and get out and smell the fresh air but you're not done yet. Now my dad met us and he is a Secret Service Agent he protects the president and he gave us directions to where we go to get scanned. We got directed to a big building that said Truax Air National Guard so we entered I said to my mom “I'm scared i don't want the metal detector to go off” I was sweating bullets she said “Will you will be fine.” Finally my turn this man in a white shirt and black pant said “alright sir come on through” the machine went beep and I was free and it didn't go off i felt like i just won the lottery i didn't want to be that kind that they would have to pat down. Now we are in a small room packed like sardines with military personnel and other families from the secret service waiting for the ok to go outside onto the tarmac to wait for the president. It was so hot inside that room it felt like a very hot summers day it didn't help i had to use the bathroom. Finally a man in a black suit walked in. I asked my mom “mom who is this guy” she said “he is the President's lead agent” he said “the president's plane will be arriving in 10 to 15 minutes so wait here for another 5 minutes and we will come get you so we can take you on to the tarmac to wait for him.” we all answered “ok.” The 5 minutes felt like an eternity but finally he came back he said “alright we will escort you outside and let you wait adults in the back and kids in front” he said.
When we were getting escorted outside I looked up and saw the counter assault team with snipers and men with binoculars and helicopters buzzing around I said to my brother “wow look at all this action that goes into one visit isn't it crazy!” He replied “yes it is insane!” Now we hear big rumbles and out of the gray clouds we see lights and blue I said “he’s here!” While the plane slowly descends from the sky you can see it a better view. All of a sudden you hear the screech of the tires and all the agents that were sitting there patiently waiting for his arrival start working like ants this is what they are trained to do to protect the president of the united states. The plane slowly rolls up the rumble of the engine is so much for my ears to handle then it starts to go quiet. Few minutes later you hear the unlatch of the door and it swings open and you are presented with the presidential seal on the inside of the door. All I could think about in that moment is the presidents that had meetings and top secret calls and that it was the traveling oval office or the president on 9/11 and it was just sitting in front of me in all of its glory. Minutes later you finally see the president and he comes up to the rope line and shakes people's hands and finally we were next I had butterflies in my stomach I had no idea what to say
then it happened. I said “nice to meet you Mr.President” and we made eye contact. Then he shook my brothers hand and then the President of the United States said “are you to brothers” we said “yes” he said “do you guys fight and stuff like brothers do?” We replied “yes but we love each other” and he said “nice to meet you.” He was off down the rest of the rope line shaking other people's hands and I just stood there in complete disbelief that I just met the president. Now the limos rolled up and he hopped in one and you hear the big thick doors slam he was encapsulated in his limo that is very safe. They are off the motorcade of 20 or 30 cars was off enroute to their destination that he was gonna speak at. That was it finally the pilot got off and we met him he was a very nice guy i just can't believe he does this every couple of weeks flying all around the world with the president. So this was the first time i met the president.
