every beach allows bonfires and extended stays, but here is one; Dockweiler State Beach located in sunny Los Angeles, CA
Dockweiler State Beach is a beach in Los Angeles which includes 3.75 miles of shoreline and a hang gliding training area. Although a unit of the California state park system, it is managed by the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors. Some parts of the beach is located directly under the flight path of the near the Los Angeles International Airport. The 91-acre property was established in 1948. Originally part of Venice-Hyperion Beach State Park, it was named in honor of prominent early Angeleno Isidore B. Dockweiler in 1955. The park boasts the Dockweiler Beach Hang Glider Flight Training Park, where beginners can learn the sport of hang gliding. Students can launch off 25-foot-high (7.6 m) dunes. The facility was built by the city and county and is operated by concessions. Smooth breezes and a broad, and a sandy landing zone, Dockweiler was a major testing ground for hang gliding pioneers in the 1960s. Worried about the safety and liability, city officials banned the sport at the beach in 1986. Practitioners lobbied for 13 years to reopen Dockweiler to hang gliding, ultimately winning a $6 million renovation in 2000 that included the flight training park. It was the first hang gliding park established in conjunction with a city government. Friends of Dockweiler Gliding Society (FDGS) was founded at the 2015 Otto Lilienthal Birthday Party sponsored by the US Hawks Hang Gliding Association; the FDGS is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the park's gliding activity for the public. , For out of towners Dockweiler State Beach is fairly close to the airport and all of the LAX hotels.
There aren't many buses that travel in that direction but with this day and age we have uber, lyft, and of course rental cars. It is also connected to tons of other beaches that are so close together you could possibly walk to them. For example, both Redondo and Manhattan Beach are just miles from Dockweiler. Beside the actual ocean and bonfires, another special artifact is all of the beach front houses right above the beach. The view from the houses is beautiful. There is a clear oceanfront view from each house it is very possible to see the fullness of the ocean and the activity in the waters. Many people come here and enjoy themselves. People that are not in town for long and just want to hang out at the beach, it is very convenient for its location. Night life at Dockweiler beach is very amazing. People don’t go home when it gets dark, instead they spark up some fire and gather around the pit. The blazing fire, friends and conversation is something that is very soothing. The sound of the ocean and dark cold sand is very comfortable. Many people prefer this beach for this particular enjoyment. They like to be able to enjoy the heat, the ocean while being in the company of their friends and
families. Not many people are aware that for the Fourth of July, Dockwelier beach has a firework show. The block off the bike paths so it’s ample room for people to be able to experience the excitement. Generally going to go see fireworks can be costly but simply paying for parking and getting a space will grant you access to fireworks on Fourth of July. There are several beaches for family and friends to gather and enjoy the open air, but Dockwelier is very convenient and affordable. Bonfires are not only great during the summer, but can be enjoyed year round. California is known for its great weather, so there is always an opportunity to round up family and friends to go out and bond over a bonfire. Outside of bonfires, this beach has campgrounds, running paths, and picnic tables. Aside from the wonderful amenities these beaches offer, it is a cost friendly option. A small family or group of friends could easily spend less than $50 for a full day of entertainment that includes beautiful scenery, parking, entertainment, and a place to prepare a day’s worth of meals. Considering the opportunities for entertainment that a beach bonfire offers, getting out to enjoy a day at the beach easily becomes a viable option.
There is so much good about this beach, but also there are many drowning deaths here. Not people many are aware of the dangers of the ocean. It is a good place for family fun, but being vigilant is very important when dealing with just about any ocean water. Nearly 10 people this year have died at this particular beach from a drowning death. Between December and summer there are rarely any life guards on duty. This past April a young man named Derrick Jeffries an army Veteran lost his life while swimming in the Manhattan Beach Ocean. Manhattan Beach is about 5 miles from Dockwelier where his body was discovered 8 days later. He was not being safe, he believed that he knew the unpredictable ocean and he swam further out than he should have. As an experienced swimmer Derrick felt that he could trust the ocean. He was with friends and before you knew it, he was caught by a current and was unable to cry out for help. Being safe is the most important part about being a beach goer. Make sure not to go out too far if chosen to go for a swim. Always go with a group, and make sure that group is prepared to go for help quickly if needed. The beach is a beautiful place, where laughter is like breathing air, and sadness can occur within seconds.
