Descriptive Essay: The Dominican Republic Trip
The Dominican Republic Trip

A few years ago me and my family went on Vacation. We went to the Dominican Republic it was new to me. When we were at the airport they had K9 dogs, but instead of German shepherds they had pit bulls. Some of the airport security had M16s it was very cool to me.
“This wasn't necessary” my mom said.
“This airport is way different from an American airport” I said laughing.
“I bet they love them guns” my brother said.

The beach was amazing the water was very shallow.
“Let's go to the second sand bar mom” I said.
“Even though its shallow you're gonna have to go far out and I don't trust the ocean” Said my mom. The second sand bar is in the water, but its very shallow just like the shore. The second sand bar is

“That's what the airport gave me if I could have gotten us closer to Indy I would have”
“Well that seems like a waste of fuel” my brother said.

When we landed in Indiana we were so exhausted. It was 12 am when we got out of the airport.
“I hate traveling days they suck” I said
“I think everyone does Tyler” my mom said.
“When did we leave the Republic” my brother said.
“We had to be at the airport at 11 am” my mom said.
“So we've been traveling for thirteen hours” I said laughing. We also had to wait for our grandpa to pick us up. The traffic was horrible for him. It took him an hour and a half to get to us. He also brought our dog with him. Our dog gets so excited when he sees us. When we got to the car he saw us and immediately peed on the car seat.
“I'm not cleaning that” I said.
“Well i'm in the front so have fun sitting in it” my mom said laughing.
“Give me some napkins i'll clean it” my brother said. When we got home, we all went to sleep. I think that was the fastest I have ever fallen asleep. That vacation had to be the best one yet. It was nothing but fun.

My dad didn't want to knock the best thing off the list right away. The price was annoying it was $30 per person. I felt like they were trying to rip us off. My dad had plenty of money for it. I’m a person who doesn't like wasting money or spending it. I feel like people try to rip me off all the time. I never have cash on me either because I think people will take it. I've gone banana boating plenty of times in my life so I know what I need to do. The funny thing is Mario has never been to the beach or been banana boating. The waves were very calm so it was gonna be an easier ride for

In Leif Jensen’s article, “Ethnic Identities, Language, and Economic Outcomes among Dominicans in a New Destination,” Jensen observes Dominican immigrants, who migrated to Reading, Pennsylvania from the Dominican Republic, and how they identify themselves in America. He and his fellow researchers start their observations by giving some of the Dominicans, in Reading, surveys about their homes, health, stress, migration history, and other things. They find that 7.6 percent of Reading’s population is Hispanic, which is double Harrisburg’s percentage (Harrisburg is the community with the next closest percentage of Hispanics). They also used open-ended questions concerning race to give the respondents the opportunity to indicate how they classify…

“We’ll see,” she answered. All of us kids worked frantically to unpack the car and put the luggage in each person’s bedroom of the house they were staying at. We stayed on my Grandfathers (Grandtom) properties when in Cape May. He had a large Victorian house (called 909) for him and my Grandmother (Granddot) and their guests and next door was a smaller but still grand Victorian house (called 907) for his children and their families and friends- that is where I stayed. There was a tennis court behind GrandToms house and a large garage with a one bedroom apartment above behind…

One of the first instances that I can remember concerning cultural shock, was when I took a Western Caribbean cruise with friends. I was naïve and in my early twenties, traveling with three other females for spring break. We spent three days on the beaches of FL, and then took a four-day cruise that stopped at multiple Latin American destinations.…

The first few steps after the boardwalk may feel rather rocky due to scattered sediments and tiny pebbles sticking on to the soles of your feet, but by halfway to the ocean, it starts getting smooth and cooler with every step you take. If laying around and catching some ray is not your type of fun, there are beach volleyball courts set up, kites to be flown here and safe swimming with lifeguards on the look out. Gazing at the sandy shore, you can see the roaring waves rushing in, toppling forts and castles made out of silken sands that shimmers under the blazing sun like tiny luminous stars in the night sky. Take advantage of this peaceful, quiet moment by standing on the shoreline and wait for the rolling ocean water slide by the ankles of your leg. As the waves try to pull back in, you will feel a sinking sensation on the heels of your foot due to the pressure of your weight and the surrounding sand. Lastly, there is an area for youths with a big, plastic palm tree set up in the middle and tiny sprinklers around it, spraying cold, chilling drops that can be felt even to the people strolling on the boardwalk. The beach is always crowded with families and couples to enjoy on their days off and especially on Friday nights, gorgeous firework shoot off can be seen starting at 9:30p.m. (Only during the summer…

It was a beautiful spring morning in Los Angeles. I awoke from an ambulance passing by and I realized I was late for work. When I was on my way to work, I saw more and more ambulances come hurdling passed me, wondering what is going on. When I got to my job as a female security guard for The Los Angeles County Prison there was no one new brought in. As I was waiting for new people to join our jail I was looking at the news with my feet propped on the desk, eating a salad and there is some type of terror in the area. I said to myself “What the FUCK is going on in this world!”…

Like it was yesterday I remember my first vacation on a cruise. My Dad and I went on a three- day long cruise to The Bahamas. I had never been on a cruise, so it was a new experience for me. We needed to be in Tampa for our departure, so we drove the two hours from Orlando, Florida to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. My Dad and I used this time to talk, make plans for the trip and think about our upcoming adventures on the cruise.…
