1. If you are working with a funeral home, start there first. Funeral homes and funeral directors often have all necessary forms for submitting obituaries to local newspapers. Also, some funeral homes will include a short obituary listing with the price of the funeral. They also may have templates to help you write the obituary.

Additional biographical information may be included in a death notice, such as: * Date and place of birth * Date and place of marriage, and name of spouse * Educational history, including schools attended and degrees or honors received * Military service, including any honors or awards received * Employment history, including positions held, awards received, or special achievements *
