The Middle Ages had been ongoing in Europe for nearly a thousand years, and original Greek and Roman culture had been forgotten. All had seemed hopeless for the life of an average European. Suddenly, at around 1350 A.D in Italy, a major shift in history caused Europe to spring into a Modern Era. This period in history is known as the Renaissance, or rebirth in learning. Humanism was a new concept that was focused on during this period, or the focus on the individual and that humans are creative. This period began with the Italian Renaissance and later spread into…

people’s ideas of what nature and wilderness completely invalidate the true meaning of what nature really is. His main claim is that the western way of thinking about wilderness and nature as separate from humanity has led to environmental destruction and ethnic cleansing. In the beginning of the article, Dowie introduces the way these different photographers have created a myth of "nature" through their pictures of places that are "absent of humans" to give society a distorted interpretation of what nature is or looks like. He continues his article by involving scientists and anthropologists and uses their understanding of nature and wilderness as another view of the topic at hand. Later in the article, he references a man named William Cronon and an essay he writes pertaining to this topic, and also incorporates a few interviews that help his claim. Throughout the argument, Dowie addresses the audience in an open way. By including testimony, interviews, secondary sources, and a few rhetorical devices, Dowie effectively persuades the audience that nature and wilderness have been misinterpreted by the general population.…

Humanities consist of humans and their ways of life starting from prehistoric to current cultural events. When one learns from past generations or civilizations one is better able to make wise decisions for the future. According to Georgia Humanities Council (2009-2013), “The humanities are stories passed from generation to generation to transmit culture. These stories are also known as our history, literature, laws, ethics, religion, philosophy, anthropology etc” (Why the Humanities Matter). This paper will be a discussion of humanities and give an insight of what humanities means as it is defined by various sources. I have chosen a cultural event from my life in which I will elaborate on to inform the reader of its importance in my own life and the culture around me.
