Have you ever been stranded on a deserted island or relocated to a new country? Or even wishing you were not your age? Well Brian from Hatchet was stranded on an island, Moon Shadow from Dragonwings relocated to America and Rachel from Eleven did not want to be her age. They are all different. But there is one reason that they all have in common. All three characters Brian, Moon Shadow and Rachel faced life changing situations.
First of all Brian faced loneliness and hunger when he was stranded on a deserted island. Paragraph 1-5 Brian thought to himself "What home would he proceed to if they found him, his Mother's or his Father's home?" Then he thought of having a "large, cheesy, juicy burger with tomatoes and double fries with ketchup and a thick chocolate shake. And there came hunger." He thought “they would come. Rachel gets mad and mortified that Sylvia claimed that it was Rachel's hideous raggedy red sweater when it was not. Paragraph 6-9 Rachel is not speaking up and saying “no-not-my-I do not“ she just could not speak up and say it was not hers. Paragraph 15-17 Rachel puts the hideous raggedy sweater at the edge of her desk. Then Mrs.Price tells Rachel to put the sweater on and Rachel does so. At Rachel's age, 11 she takes orders from older people when they tell her to. All of this shows that Rachel is coming of age 11, and cannot speak up and that she takes orders from older people.
Brian, Moon Shadow and Rachel all faced life changing experiences that had a large significance in their lives. Brian from Hatchet got stranded on an island with no resources. Moon Shadow from Dragonwings was moving to a new country, America and Rachel from Eleven wished she was not her age. All three characters faced life changing experiences due to the fact that they all had different feelings and
