ABSTRACT
Doring’s Best Atchara, is a backyard pickle business of Mrs. Teodora M. Catibog of Barangay Puting
Kahoy, Calaca, Batangas. The study aimed to develop a fruit extractor in view of system components, material specifications and ergonomic concepts, and determine its desirability. It was observed that the problem encountered was the extraction of the main ingredients which consumed a lot of time and too much effort which resulted to exposure to different risk factors like awkward posture and muscle pain.
The researchers conducted interview with the operator and conducted motion and time study. The operator experienced risk factors in the existing extraction process as observed. After the development of an ergonomic fruit extractor, preliminary testing was conducted in view of ergonomics, efficiency and performance. The modified fruit extractor was found to be effective based on the computed efficiency rate of 76.67 percent. The result was considered relevant for it shows that the quality of the fruit extracted was preserved. The capacity of the fruit extractor increased the capacity by 20 percent higher compared to the existing process. It can perform the process for only 4.71 minutes which is relatively lower than the existing process which is 7.4 minute. It has a positive net present value of Php 64, 877.61 and has a payback period of only 49 days which means that the investment is desirable.
The prototype is expected to be effective and can be used by different pickled fruits producers like ampalaya or bitter gourd and bamboo

    • NCC received both fresh fruit and process fruit in its business. Fresh fruit is a labor-intensive process that uses more workers during a peak season. Process fruit is a highly mechanized process that uses different processes. There is no problem with fresh fruit processing, while it faced some problems in process fruit processing such as waiting time on unload process, increasing cost of trucks etc. (National Cranberry Cooperative, 1983).…

In this experiment, we use titration method (volumetric analysis) to determine the centration of vitamin C in packaged fruit juice samples such as the mango, apple, passion fruit and orange juices in this experiment. Titration is a commonly used method of quantitative analysis which can determine the concentration of a known analyte (reactant). In this case the reactant is vitamin C. A titrant (reagent - Dichlorophenol-indophenol) of known concentration…

simple distillation is another method which will collects the sample as banana oil as the mixture will enter to gas phase. The solution has to be fairly pure to start with and if not, it can only contain compounds that have boiling points that are much different than the compound we are trying to isolate. Since the distillation is done at the end, after we separate the isopentyl acetate from the aqueous layer through the use of a separatory funnel and the extraction of the banana oil itself by adding in sodium carbonate, saturated sodium chloride and anhydrous magnesium sulfate to get as much of the remaining hydrophilic substances as we can, we can say that a simple distillation procedure is fit for carrying out this experiment.…

A Fruit battery is a device used in experiments proposed in many science textbooks around the world. It is made by inserting two different metallic objects, for example a galvanized nail and a copper coin, into an ion bridge (for example a lemon, a potato or paper soaked in salt water or acid). The copper coin serves as the positive electrode or cathode and the galvanized nail as the electron-producing negative electrode or anode. These two objects work as electrodes, causing anelectrochemical reaction which generates a small potential difference.…

Trend shows that percentage of water harvested berries that currently stands at 70% of the berries delivered to the plant will keep increasing in the future. In our existing set up the dryers that process wet berries are a bottleneck at 600bbls/hr capacity. Our analysis recommends installation of 2 additional driers which will augment the drying capacity to 1000bbls/hr. This will be in line with forecast that quantity of wet berries arriving at the plant will increase in the coming time.…

The goals of the experiment are to compare the types of extraction and to compute its corresponding percentage yield. Extractions are a way to separate a desired substance when it is mixed with others. Extractions use two immiscible phases to separate the substance from one phase into the other. Typical lab extractions are of organic compounds out of an aqueous phase and into an organic phase. The distribution of a solute between two phases is an equilibrium condition described by partition theory. In this extraction, tea leaves are boiled in anhydrous sodium carbonate solution to extract the tannins, theobromine, polyphenols, and caffeine out of the leaves…

Extraction is a method of seperation in which a solid or solution is contacted with a liquid solvent (the two being mutually insoluble) to transfer one or more components into to the solvent. There are two main types of extraction in chemistry, namely: Liquid-liquid extraction or solvent extraction, which is divided into two types. (simple and multiple) and solid-liquid extraction. The type of extraction that was used in this experiment was the solid-liquid extraction. To extract the caffeine from the dried tea leaves, to know the amount of caffeine present in the 10 g of tea leaves and to calculate the percentage yield of caffeine in the 10 g of tea leaves were the objectives of this experiment.…

2.1.1 Fruit Juice Fruit juice is the unfermented but fermentable liquid obtained from the edible part of sound, appropriately mature and fresh fruit or of fruit maintained in sound condition by suitable means including post harvest surface treatments applied in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Codex Alimentarius Commission. Some juices may be processed with pips, seeds and peel, which are not usually incorporated in the juice, but some parts or components of pips, seeds and peel, which cannot be removed by Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) will be acceptable. The juice is prepared by suitable processes, which maintain the essential physical, chemical, organoleptical and nutritional characteristics of the juices of the fruit from which it comes. The juice may be cloudy or clear and may have restored 1 aromatic substances and volatile flavour components, all of which must be obtained by suitable physical means, and all of which must be recovered from the same kind of fruit. Pulp and cells 2 obtained by suitable physical means from the same kind of fruit may be added. A single juice is obtained from one kind of fruit. A mixed juice is obtained by blending two or more juices or juices and purées, from different kinds of fruit. Fruit juice is obtained as follows: 2.1.1.1 Fruit juice directly expressed by mechanical extraction processes. 2.1.1.2 Fruit juice from concentrate by reconstituting concentrated fruit juice defined in Section 2.1.2 with potable water that meets the criteria described in Section 3.1.1(c). 2.1.2 Concentrated Fruit Juice Concentrated fruit juice is the product that complies with the definition given in Section 2.1.1 above, except water has been physically removed in an amount sufficient to increase the Brix…

    * Depending on the mode of disposal, the tomato fruits may be harvested at various stages of maturity. Green stage * The fruits are fully developed but are green and suitable for sending to distant markets. Pink stage * Some of the portion is red or pink and the fruit is not fully ripe. It is most suited for local markets. Ripe stage * The major portion of the fruit is red and the softening begins. It may be picked up for home or table use. Full ripe stage * The fruit develops maximum colour and turns soft. * It is suited for processing purposes. * After picking the fruits are graded and sorted out into cracked, bruised, injured fruits and well-matured ripe fruits. * For marketing purpose ISI standard is advocated. * On an average yield of 250 q/ha is expected from the improved tomato varieties but an excellent crop has produced as high as 400 q/ha.…
