Societal Changes
“Sociologists cite the weakening of the family as one of the causes for some of the problems American society faces today.” In my opinion, I agree that the challenges in America originates from the destabilization of families. Since the 1960’s there has been a tremendous change in society. Advanced technology has played a significant role in thinning the relationships in families. Additionally, new laws and learning methods has been introduced to propose a new way of raising children. America has become susceptible to issues that were condemn in the 1960’s.

increased. Many young adults and children are in tuned to entertainment, social media, and video games. “The average American boy or girl spends as few as 30 minutes in unstructured outdoor play each day, and more than seven hours in front of an electronic” In the 1960’s, there was a lack of technology. Furthermore, children were force to play outside to make friends; as well as, incorporate family time because there was no distraction of electronic devices. There would be more time to exercise social skills and communication. Technology has deteriorated families from coming together as one and enjoying the time spent to talk about life matters and develop a relationship.
New regulations and methods have been proposed in America to protect children from families bringing about discipline.
Many parents or guardians are vulnerable to go to jail on the charges of child abuse or child neglect. Discipline has a great influence in societal changes. Today, acts are enacted to provide support for children to defend themselves if they consider that they are “harshly disciplined”. Kids have the right to testify against their guardian. This takes away from chastisement of a child and also supports the injustice of the child. Families in the 60’s were allowed to raise their children. These children comprehended that if something was done that was unacceptable to parents there was always a …show more content…
consequence.
Families are becoming weaker. If societal differences occurred then there were still be a balance in the economy just in a different perspective. Laws, technology advancement, teaching and learning methods, and parenting have all change since the 1960’s. It tears apart from family time, developing relationships with one another, and building communication skills and problem solving skills. “Today one third of American children –a total of 15 million- are being raised without a father. Nearly five million more children without a mother.” The lack of parenting, increase of electronics, enforcement of stricken laws have constructed weaker families; therefore, producing societal problems.
In order to strengthen families, communication should play a factor in all matters.
Adults should display positive images and attempt to have a connection with their families. Families need to create a bond and offer support to one another. America should decrease it use of technology or make timeout your day to enjoy your surroundings, friends, and families.
In conclusion, I do believe that the weakening in families is one of the primary causes to America’s societal problems. Families lack discipline, parenting, communication, and so much more. The advancement of technology has damaged our focus on the meaning of enjoying a family. Laws ordain have cause a support to the injustice of children and limit the amount of discipline a child needs. There are proposals to solve these issues and strengthen families so that the issues America faces today can decrease due the stability of families.
