Detailed Lesson Plan in MAPEH Grade 8

At the end of the 60-minutes session, the students will be able to:
I. Objectives
1. Discuss the factors that influence people to use drugs;
2. Explain stimulant drugs and their effects;
3. Share experiences among the students

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Drug Education
Reference/s: Enjoy Life with P.E and HEALTH Textbook pages 240-254
Materials: Visual Aids, Laptop, Projector
Values Integration: Develop a genuine commitment to fight drug dependencies

A. Preparation
Teacher’s Activity
“Good Morning class!”

“Let us pray first…

“Before you take your sit please pick up the pieces of paper and arrange you chairs properly…”

“Ok now you may take your sit, So..Ms. Secretary who’s absent for today?”

Student’s Activity
Good Morning Ma’am!

(One student will lead the prayer)

(Students will follow the given instruction)

(the secretary will check the attendance)

B. Motivation
“So how’s your weekend my dear students?

“That’s good! Have you done productive things last weekend with your friends or family?”

“That’s good to know. So, before we proceed, let’s have some action song first. Are you familiar with DRUGS NEVER song?”

“Okay then, listen to the audio first. And let’s sing together afterwards.”
“It was great ma’am!”

“Of course ma’am! It was a lot of fun!”

“No ma’am!”

“Okay ma’am!”

Warm up
Drugs? Never!
D is for Dumb. It's dumb to take drugs.
R is for Rip-Off from cash-hungry thugs.
U is for Ugly, drug dirt in your heart. But
G is for Good if you never will start.
S is for Sure of the right thing to do.
I will NEVER take drugs, And neither will you!
“Okay now class, what can you say about the song? Does it tell us something important?”

“Very Good Daniel! You know what class, Daniel is quite correct. The song simply tells and advises us to say no to drugs. But why do you think drug dependence/addiction is still a nagging problem in our society nowadays? Especially in young people, like you?”

C. Presentation
The students will be given an activity which is related to the topic

D. Discussion
“Have you ever heard Amphetamine, Cocaine, Shabu in news or in TV? What comes in your mind when you hear these words?”

“That’s right! Stimulant drugs! Do you know the negative effects of these stimulant drugs?”

“Thank you for that amazing idea jane! Stimulants are drugs that increase the activity of the brain and other parts of the nervous system. The effects on the body are the following”

(Paste some effects on the board [loss of appetite, sleeplessness that may lead to weight loss, headache, dizziness, fatigue, hallucination and violent tendencies, inability to think clearly, a stop of the circulation of blood in the different parts of the body due to overdose])

“Okay class, I will divide you into 4 groups…

“Each group will act the following situations.. I’ll give you 15 mins. to prepare..group 1 will be here, 2 there…..Okay go..

“Very good class! All of you really act like a pro! Let’s give ourselves a mosquito applause!”
(The students will count to form 4 groups)

(the students gather with their respective groupmates)

IV. Evaluation
“Get your quiz notebooks. Copy this table and answer the following questions..

1. What are the different kinds of stimulants?
2. What are the effects of stimulants on the body?

Using one whole piece of cartolina, make a poster showing the role of friends and family in helping fight drug dependence. Present it next meeting.
