In order to best aid in the investigation I have chosen Deputy Johnson as my assistant lead investigator. While all good candidates for the job, Deputy Johnson has the skills required to be the best fit for the role. Not only has she been in law enforcement for a good enough length of time to get a working knowledge of the law, she also has worked in a detention center. This means she must have excellent paperwork skills and knows how to check if information is correct and dig out details.…

Martha Vasquez and I began by discussing the reason the police responded to her residence on 3/29/16. Vasquez stated that her husband and she had been involved in a verbal dispute and that she had been drinking alcohol heavily. Vasquez stated that she vaguely recalls the incident, but that she recalls Officer Flores conducting herself in a professional and caring manner during her encounter with her. When I asked her if she recalled the presence of another officer at the scene, she said possibly but that she couldn’t be sure.…

On July 28, 1812, nine men huddled together inside the Baltimore City Jail, not because they were being detained for criminal malfeasance, but for their own protection from the mob of 1,500 angry Baltimoreans gathered outside. The men inside the jail, led my Alexander C. Hanson, were members or affiliates of the unpopular Federalist newspaper, The Federal Republican. The crowd outside was predominantly composed of European immigrant wage laborers from Ireland who flocked to Baltimore following the Revolutionary War. Without warning, the back door to the jail swung open and the angry mob rushed inside and descended upon Hanson and his cohorts. As described by Isaac Dickson, a Justice of the Peace in Baltimore City, “there a scene of horror…

After long hours of interrogation, the two witnesses have complied with the police’s story to avoid conflict and to be released from custody. The witnesses have also become suggestible during the interrogation, they have answered falsely in some leading questions to please the interviewer. An interview with an should not give any kind of stress to the witness. The Collier County Probation Department received two negative media remarks in the past month. The media stated that the probation agency was soft on crime. The chief of probation decided to react to the situation by implementing stricter and more detailed presentence investigation reports. However, the chief of probation used personal leave and left Joan Casey the supervisor in charge of the department. Casey is in charge of responding to any inquiries presented by the media and is under pressure by the media and the chief of probation to make the right decision that will satisfy the public, media, and the chief of probation. The current case is pending final judgment and is about a 23-year-old man who murdered his stepfather and was a victim for many year of physical and incest abuse. However, other than the stepfather the man is not considered a risk to the public. The probation department is proposing intermediate sanction to the judge for the 23-year-old man. A well-known television anchor contacted Casey by phone to discuss the sentencing prior to the final judgment. In this particular situation Casey should avoid the reporter and not provided information when a judge has not made decision. Another reason Casey should avoid speaking to the anchor is because the news potentially could have a public reaction, thus making her agency a target for the media. Also there is no way that Casey could know if the anchor may report a negative remark and not support her departments sentencing proposal.…
