Detroit Lions Practice Player Case Analysis
The Detroit Lions still have some key decisions to make when it come to the 53-man roster and several players will try and have their name written down during the second preseason game tonight against the Cincinnati Bengals. Here are a couple names you may want to keep an eye out for and see if you are impressed enough to remember the number on their jersey tomorrow.
While Dan Orlofsky isn’t in any fear of losing the number two spot at quarterback, Jake Rudock still has a lot to prove if he wants to make the roster instead of being assigned to the Lions practice squad. When it comes to numbers and stats, Rudock looked great on paper after the preseason opener. The reality of the matter is that he only threw one pass that was in the air for

Rudock is going to have to show he is able to handle throwing more than a screen or a quick dump-off if he expects the Lions to add a third quarterback to the roster.
There is no doubt about it, both Theo Riddick and Ameer Abdullah will be a force for any defense to contend with they go up against this year. That being said, the Lions have yet to fill the role that was left open by Joique Bell. While Riddick is a target Matthew Stafford will look for coming out of the backfield all season long, he has yet to prove he can be counted on as a productive rusher.
Zach Zenner has looked impressive throughout camp so far and found time on the field in the opener against Pittsburg before Stevan Ridley or George Winn. The three of them will probably see equal time on the field tonight against the Bengals, but Zenner should end up being the most productive out of the trio.
Many have assumed that the fourth wide receiver spot on the roster would belong to TJ Jones, but Jace Billingsley made sure his name was being considered after the game against the Steelers. Along with being Detroit’s top punt returner in the game, Billingsley also showed that he is a threat with the ball after the catch with his fourth quarter touchdown

Whatever they choose to do, the four year veteran is versatile enough to use in multiple areas. Collins was acquired to fill the void left by the release of Paul Kruger and Nate Orchard going on injured reserve. The Pro Bowler has great awareness and coverage skills. In fact, he can drop back and cover tight ends, something Chris Kirksey has struggled with. He can even be used as a pass rusher to help a team with just 14 sacks.…

New England can adjust to Gronk’s absence with plenty of bunch formations, which can setup miss matches with linebackers. However, the pivotal piece for the Patriots going forward is tight end Martellus Bennett, who New England traded for in March. At 5 ft. 11 in. and 199 pounds, Marcus Trufant is an average-size NFL defensive back (DB). Those stats don't stand out in a league where more than 500 players weighed 300-plus pounds at the 2006 training camps. But a DB's mass combined with his speed -- on average, 4.56 seconds for the 40-yard dash -- can produce up to 1600 pounds of tackling force, according to Timothy Gay, a physics professor at the University of Nebraska and author of The Physics of Football.…

Countless people overlook offensive lineman when a quarterback, running back, or wide receiver has a lot of yards or touchdowns. The leading reason the skilled players have the yards or touchdowns are because of the offensive lineman. Without the offensive lineman blocking for them, they wouldn’t have the success that they have, but the lineman has to be exceptionally well. To be an effective offensive lineman you have to have a good stance, great run-blocking skills, and great pass blocking skills.…

First, I would like to discuss the fact that concussions are a well-known enough concern that allows people to make decisions on weather taking part in the game of football is worth the risk. In an article written in 2011 on ESPN.com, former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew commented on whether he would play through a concussion or take himself out of the game. Jones-Drew responded by saying he would hide the concussion: “The bottom line is: You have to be able to put food on the table. No one's going to sign or want a guy who can't stay healthy. I know there will be a day when I'm going to have trouble walking. I realize that," Jones-Drew said. "But this is what I signed up for. Injuries are part of the game. If you don't…

Concussions have been an issue in the NFL for over 5 decades. Over the course of time, they had been increasing. One of the major factors for the increase was the changing of the game itself. Teams no longer heavily relied on running the ball but became quick offenses. They relied on quick curls, drags, hitches and slants, leaving the receivers defenseless after catching the ball. In a conventional west coast offense, the ball was thrown at least 15 yards down the field but now many teams are only throwing it 5 yards down the field. The players that are catching these short throws are expected to have a great YAC (yards after the catch). These players…
