Our Scripture Reading from Deuteronomy makes a connection between obeying God Word, and obtaining material blessings; but, more importantly, it reminds us that God’s Word is close to us (Deuteronomy 30:9-14). God’s Word is not something so far removed that we never get a glimpse of it. It is not beyond our reasoning and capabilities. By the way, I am not suggesting that we grasp God’s Word in its totality, but enough of God’s Word to lead us to do good. Being created in God’s Image, God’s Word is close to us. Do we pay attention to God speaking to us through the Holy Spirit?
This week’s New Testament (NT) Scripture Reading had a different concept of blessing than our Old Testament (OT) Scripture Reading. This NT Scripture Reading was about a blessing not verified by material prosperity, but a blessing verified through a growth in love and concern for others. Perhaps our concept of blessing has more in common with parts of the OT, in that we ae greatly influenced that the tangible proof of God’s blessings is an abundance of material goods. …show more content…
