Pattern of Motor Development in the First Two Years:
Overview:
A Child’s growth and the development of his physical abilities are something truly remarkable to watch. It is important to consider all the abilities that a child must gain to face this world like crawling, holding bottle, rolling and etc. They are basically the development moments of a child that parents can observe the ways in which the child develops skills and grows. When most people recall the stages of their child’s development and growth they contain some good memories of their child’s first step, crawl or roll. Yet most people are unaware of the times when their child picked up its first object or moved objects between hands. However, these are the considerable facts and psychology termed as motor development phases. Motor development contains the actions and stages of development of an infant; this is what going to be illustrated in the give paper. The main aim of the current discussion is to describe the patterns of motor development in accordance with the activities performed by the infant while he is growing.
Considerable Facts:
Initial development of a child results in 2 major skills; Fine motor skills and gross motor skills. Gross motor skills include the movement of larger muscles of body while fine motor skills involve the use of smaller muscles like hands and fingers. Gross motor skills are those large physical movements that a child performs with its body. Considering the first two years they include walking, crawling and rolling. The gross motor skills in a child can be easily identified because these are the things which parents are asked and like to talk about the most when talking about their child’s development.
Fine motor skills are other important factors in child growth. It is the way in which a child uses its fingers, arms and hands. It usually includes the usage of hands and fingers like reaching out, grasping and using different objects like crayons and Lego block etc. Usually these skills are not mainly emphasized on infants so they are overlooked mostly by the parents when the child is an infant (Miller, 2010).
Pattern of Motor Development Stages:
0-4 Months: In the initial 4 months the infant will develop the ability to move its arms and hands to get the objects or visual stimuli. The movements of both the right and left hands will be similar to each other at this stage. The child will also manage to develop the skills to move the eyes and head sideways; this will help the kid in developing further fine motor skills. The rotation of head can be in response to the sound of mother also. Now during the period of 2-3 months the child will develop the ability to reach of objects in range and hold them closer to themselves usually in the middle of theory body. Now at this stage their reflexes are not that responsive so they can’t release the objects they grasp. You will observe the head is also held up above the line of body for slight intervals (Charlesworth, 2010).
4-12 Months: During this period the baby will be in more stable state. The baby will have control of its arms and can now reach out for objects with one hand rather than raising both hands. The baby will be able to hold and grasp objects now voluntarily. Also the ability to squeeze objects and hold them tightly will be observed. Soon the baby will be able to pick small objects and use the index and thumb as well. The control of hands will be more mature now as transfer of object in between hands will be possible and releasing the objects will be easier. The visual ability of the child will continue to grow as at this stage it will be possible to move eyes and coordinate them with body movements and identify known objects and similar faces
1-2 Years: The child will be able to have the balance in their body to sit without arms support. The movement of arm will be fluent. Around the age of two the child will be able to move around easily .Play with objects use crayons. Their basic things in body will be matured enough (Haibach, Reid, & Collier, 2011).
Precisely, something to keep in mind is that newborn, infant are just like us. One thing that is in human nature is that some develop these skills earlier than the others.
