Conclusion In Conclusion, The Males had a higher average systolic and diastolic then the females.
When diving the Systolic over the diastolic to get the blood pressure, the males still had a higher blood pressure than females. The standard deviation for the males was lower than the females, and males had a higher average BMI and weight than the average BMI and weight of females.
According to my data my hypothesis was correct. I stated that Older males will have a higher blood pressure on average than older females. What I observed was that males were more likely to get hypertension than females.
Blood pressure tends to rise with age. About 65 percent of Americans aged 60 or older have High blood pressure. One of the most common forms of high blood pressure in older adults is chronic hypertension. Chronic hypertension occurs when the systolic blood pressure is high.
About 66.7% people over age 60 with high blood pressure have Chronic hypertension. “Men and women are equally likely to develop HBP during their lifetimes. However, before age 45, men are more likely to have HBP than women” (Gibbons). Smoking, being overweight or obesity, lack of physical activity, too much salt in the diet, too much alcohol consumption, stress, older age, and genetics. A person with chronic hypertension are more likely to develop heart and blood vessel disease. This increases your risk of a heart attack, stroke, heart failure, or kidney disease.
There was an article that related to my hypothesis, and proved my hypothesis to be accurate to some extent. The article said that men before the age of 55 are more common to contract chronic hypertension than women, however after age 55 women are more common to get chronic hypertension. “ The reasons for gender differences in blood pressure are not known and several laboratories are still researching. Some studies demonstrated that women tend to have higher heart pump output and lower blood vessel resistance, thereby minimising blood vessel injury” (Cheong). However my hypothesis is still accepted. My research is valid because i collected the data of 10 women and 10 men from the website www.mhhe.com . Therefore my data is valid to some extent because its been taken from the website, but its not real live data from 10 subjects that i know. That is 1 weakness of my data. another would be the fact that my histogram looks misleading.

Lifestyle can also increase an individual’s risk of developing the disorder, for example having a poor diet as this can lead to high blood pressure or heart disease, additionally having too much saturated fat can cause narrowing of the arteries, increasing the risk of having a heart attack or a stroke which could lead to developing vascular dementia. It is also important to exercise in order to raise the heart beat to ensure your blood is flowing as it should, minimising risks of developing blood clots. Other lifestyle events that can encourage an individual to develop the disorder includes smoking, drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, having high cholesterol as well as having heart…

Hypertension or otherwise known as high blood pressure is a term that millions of us are familiar with. According to Center for Disease Control and Prevention “more than 65 million individuals have hypertension” ("High Blood Pressure", 2010). Blood pressure is defined as the force of blood against the artery walls as it circulates through the body. It can cause health problems if it stays high for a long time. It is measured using two numbers. The first, systolic, number represents the pressure in your blood vessels when your heart beats. The second, diastolic, number represents the pressure in your vessels when your heart rests between beats ("High Blood Pressure", 2010). A healthy blood pressure reading is lower than 120/80mmHg and pre-hypertension is between 120/80mm Hg and 139/89mmHg. Stage one hypertension is between 140/90mm Hg and 159/99mm Hg and stage two hypertension is a reading of 160/100mm Hg or higher ("About High Blood Pressure", 2012). High blood pressure raises your risk for heart disease and stroke and is one of leading causes of death in the United States. It is often called the "silent killer" because many people don 't realize they have it and often has no warning signs or symptoms ("High Blood Pressure", 2010). High blood pressure, if left untreated, can cause severe damage to the body 's organs, including the brain, heart, blood vessels, and kidneys. Risk factors for hypertension include: increasing age, male, race (African Americans, Hispanics), diabetes, family history, high sodium diet, obesity, physical inactivity, alcohol, and tobacco use. The goal for treating people with this chronic condition is to decrease mortality and increase quality of life (Wang, MD & Vasan, MD, 2005 ).…

As we age, our chances of developing high blood pressure rise. High blood pressure happens when the blood pumps through your arteries more vigorously than normal, and, if left untreated, it can lead to serious health problems such as stroke and heart attack. Also as we get older, our heart and blood vessels become stiffer. The heart fills with blood more slowly. The more rigid arteries are less able to expand when more blood is pumped into them. So, blood pressure tends to increase.…

In the study provided, the information shows a larger difference in heart attacks for males over females under the age of 55. One reason for this difference is the amount of physical activities such as sports and other training. Males at that younger age are putting more force on their heart more often. Women on the other hand do not have the rise in testosterone during these physical activities and typically don’t do as much.…

The prevalence of hypertension increases with age and is higher in African American than in Whites. In comparison to whites, African Americans developed high BP at an earlier age, and it is more severe at any decade. As a result, African Americans have a higher prevalence of stroke, heart disease, and end-stage renal disease when compared with whites. In addition, African American has a higher mortality rate at every level of BP elevation compared with whites. In both rises, the prevalence is higher in less educated than in more educated people. Hypertension is more prevalent in men than in women until age, 55 after age 55 it is more prevalent in women than men. The status of hypertension control has improved considerably over the past years. Large-scale education programs provided by various organizations have increased awareness of hypertension. The percentage of patients with hypertension on medication who have their BP controlled has also improved substantially. The diagnosis of hypertension requires that elevated readings be present on at least three occasions during several weeks.…

Hypertension (HTN) is a genetic disease which tends to run in families. Even though every race and ethnicity can be affected by HTN the highest prevalence is in the African American communities (Opara, Hawkins, Sundaram, Merchant, Rasmussen & Holmes, 2013). During my survey, I conversed with 50 people in my community, 48 had a mother or father with HTN, the other two were uncertain. Twenty-five of the 50 people I conversed with admitted to being diagnosed with HTN. Only five of the 25 diagnosed with HTN checked their blood pressure (BP) on a daily basis. In the United States, HTN is the leading cause of mortality among people with cardiovascular disease (Opara et al., 2013). The…

Evidently, there is a large difference of variance within these above results and is consistent with the range of the results of data collected. The ranges of the data sets suggest that the spread of scores around the mean were consistent. Majority of subjects displayed a significant increase in max VO2 and an inclusive decrease in the heart rate when both released the same absolute power output after training but also showed no/insignificant difference in heart rate (Skinner JS, et al). The male individuals in this experiment could complete more push up than females according to the t-test results. For explanation, the research done by Zemba and Rogel about the dancer in a different gender might suggest an answer. Male dancers have higher 24 hour systolic blood pressures than female dancers and that was related to a large mass of left ventricles and large maximal exercise load, which could be influenced by size, body sexhormone and other factors (Zemba and Rogel, 2001)…

We experience many different changes in our lives during middle adulthood. Starting at around the age of 40, we start to become more likely to experience certain illnesses like arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, and other illnesses. We also begin to be become more concerned about our health during middle adulthood than we were in our younger days. Hypertension is one of the most frequent chronic disorders that we face during this time. Hypertension is often symptomless, which makes it even more deadly because if it is left untreated, it greatly increases the chance of stroke and heart attack. What I found interesting in this chapter is that even though we are faced with these issues, we tend to be relatively healthy during middle adulthood.…
