Gay Marriage Gay marriage happens to be one of the most controversial issues today in the United States. This subject is one that many people argue about as evidenced by numerous newspaper articles about gay marriage laws. Some states allow gay marriage and some do not, but the laws inconsistency between states leaves many bewildered. The number of court cases discussing gay marriage rights has increased greatly over the past several years. Based on recent articles, this issue seems to be split with as many people for gay marriage as against it. The arguments regarding gay marriage throughout the United States seem to be getting quite a bit more heated as more and more states begin legislation on the issue. This controversial issue interests people, including myself, for multiple reasons. Many believe people should have the right to marry whatever gender they want and that the decision belongs to the individual not the government. The issue gets so much attention because people get emotionally involved in matters involving relationships. People who want to get married to the one they love should have the right to. Also, the issue of gay marriage involves tons of people passionate about what they believe in. In addition decisions made regarding gay marriage may ultimately affect other controversial issues such as, abortion and gun laws. This makes for great arguments from both sides.
Support for gay marriage in all states acknowledges the rights of individuals. Government involvement in such an issue and the states all having different laws affects the lives of so many. Whoever people marry, regardless of their sex, should not matter to others. This type of restriction on people discriminates against those that feel differently about their sexual orientation than others. Discrimination for any reason, as history has shown us, oppresses and demoralizes people. The American people and
