From a Dhoni fanatic
India, a country where Cricket is a religion, a very serious business. We are the same multi –faceted group that celebrate the cricketers when they win and throw stones at their houses if they lose. With the recent test series debacle and under immense criticism from the media and critics, The Indian team under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni is preparing for the ODI series against the same side that had beaten them in all departments fair and square. The captain who was one of the very few who had actually performed with the bat, the second highest run getter for India in the series, has been held responsible for the defeat. Being an ardent Dhoni fan from his long hair days and a very true admirer of his batting, his ability to remain calm in tough times, his attitude to fight till the last ball and of course his leadership skills, the recent series defeat after going 1-0 up with a massive victory at Lords (Supposedly, The Home of Cricket) made me inquisitive as to what could have gone wrong with his decisions and tactics.
Too Many things in one plate - M S Dhoni has given the impression of wanting to hold on to as much as possible of whatever has been put on his plate. From captaining the Indian cricket team across all three formats, captaining Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL to even managing his fellow cricketers’ accounts through his firm. The smart manager knows how to delegate rather than try to run a tight ship by keeping everything for himself.
Big jobs mean high stress - Managers often underestimate the damage their decisions do to themselves. Thinking themselves invincible, they take on as much as possible and try to deliver results as soon as they can. The result? Quick burnout due to physical and mental stress. The higher one grows, the more important it is to take care of yourself first since your actions have a direct impact on those below you.
