Health insurance could possibly prevent the onset of various diseases such as diabetes. “ In the 2009 National Health Insurance Survey (NHIS), uninsured people with diabetes were six times more likely to forgo needed health care because of cost compared to those who were continuously insured ( Casagrande and Cowie)”.
“The previous cost of diabetes studied by the American Diabetes Association
(ADN) estimated that there were nearly 17.5 million people living in the United States with diagnosed type 1 or type 2 diabetes in 2007, at an estimated cost of $174 billion in higher medical cost and lost productivity ( Casagrande and Cowie).“ Diabetes is a disease where you have too much glucose in your blood, which can lead to serious health complications (Mayoclinic.com)”. In order for a diabetic to keep their disease stabilized they need to do a numerous amount of preventative care that can become uneconomical for a lower and middle class Americans. Countless test are needed regularly for diabetics such as an A1C test, this test gives you an average of your blood glucose levels for the

previous three months and will help determine if the treatment provided by the doctor is working effectively. A1C test should be done twice a year and is fairly inexpensive resulting in many people being able to pay for this
